I am going to get the calmini 3" suspension lift, which says it comes with bump stop extensions. I am NOT going to get a body lift, and I am going to put 33X12.5 BFG's on my X. I doubt I will be doing any offroading, unless my husband takes it out, which in case he won't be rough because I won't let him. smile So my question is... do I need different bump stop extensions than the ones that come with the calmini kit? I don't mind cutting the inside to make the tires fit, but I am REALLY worried about the tires eating away at the black molding above my fender well.
Any opinions???

Why on earth would you do a suspension lift and 33's and not allow it to be taken offroad? Whats the point. Oh yeah, you may have trouble fitting those 33's w/out a body lift. Better have a saw-zaw.

I agree.. just do a much less expensive 2" BL for the 33's rather than the susp lift. The 33's won't work with just the susp lift. No reason for a susp lift if not looking for a bit more hardcore off road ability.

Oh yea and without the susp lift your stock steering will last a lot longer smile

I say go for the lift if you want it, then after you install it maybe you'll change your mind about showing off the X's potential, but since now your ride is ready for a little more wheelin', you can have that much more fun! Plus X's look sweet lifted IMO, even if they are road warriors, just be ready to inspect/replace factory parts like xterraintx said. Good luck!

The general practice is to just do the lift, slap on the tires, and then see where/if they rub.

If they rub, then you have to either get after that area with a cutting tool/hammer, install more lift etc.

Bump stop extensions aren't your issue... those stop uptravel in the rear, but they don't make 'em for the front... and the front is where you are going to rub.

You also might want to consider going with 33x10.5" tires if you can find them. This will reduce your chances of rubbing.

Are you going to keep the stock wheels? They'll fit better if you do (backspacing issues)

That said, the cool thing to do would be to get a 2" body lift in addition to the 3" suspension lift and get some rockcrawler wheels.

Then you'll look like xterraintx here:

Oh - and he's right on the steering system... it will wear out within a year of putting on a suspension lift and big tires - so start planning for a steering upgrade.

Another option is to go with slightly smaller tires and just a body lift. I did the 3" body lift with 32" BFG MTs:

I have some rubbing problems - but it seems like a lot of that is because of the rockcrawler wheels with less backspacing (i.e. they stick out farther so they don't tuck up inside the wheel wells anymore). The cool thing with the body lift is that it doesn't wear on your steering as much as a suspension lift (though with the larger tires there is still some increased wear)

Ok, so I know that it's a typical cliche about me lifting my rig, and not offroading, but to be perfectly honest I am just going for looks. I really don't want to do a body lift because there is nothing out there to raise the bumper and I am not fond of that look. My husband has 33X12.5 BFG's on his truck and I really like them, so I kind of had my heart set on them. Do you think I would have a lot of trouble with 32x11.5? I am already planning on getting the steering upgrade, so don't worry about that. I am getting new rims but the back spacing is 4.75. I am just really worried about hurting my X.

I have done more than rub in the rear. While pounding though deep silt the rear kicked up HARD and hammered the wheel well into the rear door and completely sheared off the plastic "bolts" that hold on the rear grey trim in the process.

I think this was due more to the offset of the wheels moreso than the tire size. (32's)

While removal of the trim added some space, I still am debating if not using the BS extentions is a good idea especially with a longer travel spring pack.

There are allways tradeoffs.

Then again for your purposes you don't really care about finding the limits of your bump travel. I would use the BS extensions anyways as a precaution since you don't need the travel anyways.

With 32x11.5 and the 4-something inch backspace wheels you're talking about, you'll probably be fine with the 3" sus lift and the bumpstops that come with it.

Again, it's just kind of a try-and-see thing. You WILL have to trim some plastic behind the front tires.

When I first had my 3" SL and 2" BL put on w/ my 33x12.50s I rubbed like a son of a gun and still do occassionally in really weird angles off road. I would highly reccommend getting the BL to save you on trimming if you are set on the 33x12.50s (and btw you can make a bracket or buy a bracket that will adjust for the difference for your bumper)
