Several of us on the Nissan4wheelers board are trying to convince Aussie Locker to put something together for us Nissan lovers. The more response we get,the better chance we have at getting a low cost locker.Look under the nissan power/drivetrain topics for the thread. We need lots and lots of response, butI know lots us want lockers, buy cant afford an ARB setup,so respond NOW!!!!!!

I would be very interested. Is the h233b the rear diff only in the Xterra or is the front the same? Any more information on this?

EDIT:
Here is the topic on the other forum. I registered to sign the thing but now my account is activated yet. Maybe we should start a topic like that on this forum?

My wife approves all memberships on N4W. She usually does it daily, so please be patient. We validate your email address before activation to keep the spammers off our board.

This locker does look promising and should be a helluva lot cheaper than an ARB.

Did we kill Aussie 's Site? Here's a nice writeup of Aussie FAQ\'s

I'm in if I can get both ends done for the same price as one.

I would of course need to know more and will watch to see if their site comes back up.

Looks as though this could be done myself and that has the highest appeal other than the fact that there is no driver interaction and it is automatic. NICE!

Thanks for everyone trying to get us cheaper prices. [ThumbsUp]

Since there is no Nissan Locker yet,not sure of price, but on the Aussie Locker web site most other lockers are around $250.00.It would be similar to the lockrite,no air pumps or electronics or anything like that...The web site says its an easy istall, guess that depends each persons experience.

But the $2000 question is, will they have a unit for the non-LSD 3rd and another for the LSD 3rd?

Or make one unit that will fit in either?

I have the LSD, and other don't, but we both want lockers. Solve that little quandry and we'll be in business.

An LSD one would be like the Detroit version that is no longer available, replaces the entire carrier, not just the internals. Adapting the lunchbox locker design (Aussie, Lockright, Detroit, etc.) to replace the internals of an LSD would be a radically different undertaking, something has to take up the space where the clutches are in the LSD.
I wouldn't hold my breath.

Went on the Aussie website and found this...
NOTE - Aussie Lockers are designed to be installed in an open differential. If you have a positraction or LSD case you will need to change to an open prior to installation.

Well just incase they did make a locker, and it was only available for an open diff. Can the open diff center just go right into the LSD housing, like I mean unbolt the bolts around the outside, and pull out the axles? Would it bolt right in, are the gear ratios the same? Or is there an easier way to do this.

Other than the splines in the side gears and the ring gear mating surface, the differentials are so different that there is no way you could use one design for both. An 33-spline open diff should not be very hard to find at all. Pathfinders 96-2004, Frontiers 2000-2004, Xterras 2000-2004.

Yeah but my question is, would you be able to just replace this part with a non LSD one

Or would you have to get the rear end.

Yes. You can take the LSD carrier off (the ring gear bolts to the carrier) and replace it with an open carrier. It's a piece of cake to do; only setup required is to reset the backlash when you reinstall the open carrier. It is a simple, bolt-on replacement. There is nothing more you'd need to do to replace a LSD carrier w/ an open carrier. AND, if you've got the 3rd member out to put in a lunchbox locker, anyways, you could do it all at the same time.

It's no big deal, and not hard to do.

But also, yes, you can take the entire 3rd and just bolt it in. The axle housings are the same.

Well I wrote Aussie about the locker and finally received a response. I'm sure others of you may have received the same response, but figured it would be nice to post it for those who haven't.

-----------------------------------------

"Not soon. We have agreed to look at the diff and the market to see what the demand looks like. If we see a significant enough demand to justify the substantial cost of development and manufacturing setup costs then we would put it in the new product program. My best estimate would be a decision in mid-to-late summer with product to follow in the winter. "

-----------------------------------------

Let's hope we give them enough interest to speed up the process.

Nice try guys, I got this last October, when I was asking Richmond Gear about their lockers as well...

Thank you for your interest in Richmond Gear and Powertrax products.

Development of a new product application depends on several factors including the willingness of our Distributors to stock the product.

We have added your request to our 2005 project evaluation list. Most likely, it would be the second or third quarter of next year before a decision is reached.

Subject: Lock Right for the 33 spline H233B

I'm just curious as to whether or not there are any plans on producing a Lock Right for the 33 spline version of the H233B on the newer Nissan V6 equipped vehicles.

I have your locker in the front of my solid axle equipped Toyota, and love it! I'm running your spool in the rear. I've had zero problems either of them and want to continue with my loyalty.

My newest toy is a rolled (salvaged) Xterra (2002 SuperCharged automatic, 4x4). I am a Nissan Mechanic, in Denver, Colorado. Did I mention I love your products?

Eagerly awaiting your answer.

Allen Cox

P.S. Going with the Solid Axle kit of the front (Calmini), so I'll be getting something for the Dana 44 that will be going up front as well!
If we want to see something happen, for either a Lock Right or anything else, we have to ask. Baby steps...[/b]

OK I keep seeing these posts, and have been assured by the good people at 4x4 parts that there IS a lock-right AND a Detroit locker available for the H233B rear diff. Am I missing something? I don't know that much about differentials (and don't have the time to play around with it), but I was told to look into these:

Detroit Locker for H233B (4x4parts.com)

L ock Right Locker for H233B (4x4parts.com)

Both of these are listed for models other than the Xterra, but I have been told that these will work with a 2000-2004 Xterra without modification. Can anyone shed some light on this? If the lock-right works, I want to put that in my old non-LSD carrier and replace the LSD I put in. Thanks! [Wave]

It's the difference between a 31 spline axle (pre-99 Frontiers, older Pathy's and Hardbodies) and the 33 spliners that we all have (post-99 Frontiers and all X's).

You can do this though. Swap out the axles from an early Frontier, with your non-LSD 3rd, and then you can use the Lock-Rite or the Detroit. But you won't have your ABS any more, as they didn't have the ABS rings on the early shafts. Also, the early shafts have a 0.005" difference in size, being that they are smaller.

One member here did that, with great success, I believe it's OnlyoneDR.

The ABS will work fine. The tone rings are present on the shafts. I pulled the tone rings off of my shafts just to make field-replacement easier since my ABS sensor is on the 3rd.

For the shaft diameter difference, you just need to buy the early oil seals if you get the axles as assemblies (with the bearings, locknuts, etc) like I did.

The Detroit worked great on my last outing. Ground clearance, not traction, is now the limiting factor for my truck.

Damn...I wish I had the time to do that kind of work. Unfortunately I'll probably end up having to pay someone else to do this work for me...that's going to be painful. Thanks for the response... [Geek]

Cyclemut...you seem to be knowledgeable in this area, so I have to ask the stupid question...

OK I hate to keep beating this one into the ground, but this has been bothering me. (Again, I know nothing about differentials. I do engine work on performance boats...not that much applies to off-roading laugh ). Anyway, if the Lock-Right that is currently available is for the 31-spline version of the H233B axle, but still for the same axle, what is the real difference between the 33-spline and 31-spline (um...other than the number of splines on the axle itself)? Is the 31-spline carrier a different size? If it fits in the same axle as we all have, my guess would be that it's not. So what else about the carrier/3rd is actually different? Is it a matter of the bearings and races that pair up with the individual axles on the carrier that comes from the 31-spline axle? If so, wouldn't it be possible to put a Lock-Right in an open carrier from a 31-spline axle, and replace the bearings and races with those from a 33-spline?

Having never taken the 3rd apart that far (or doing anything other than changing diff oil, for that matter), this is boggling my mind. Please help! [Crybaby]

Also...Porsche...is there a simple way to "reset the backlash" when reassembling the 3rd? (For instance, replacing factory open diff with a factory LSD in order to do some experimenting with the open carrier). Thanks for your continued help guys...one of these days my ride will be what it dreams of being laugh

The real difference is 4 spider vs. 2 spider. The earlier versions were 4 spider diffs, and the new ones are 2. That's what I understand anyways.
