Cyclemut...you seem to be knowledgeable in this area, so I have to ask the stupid question...

OK I hate to keep beating this one into the ground, but this has been bothering me. (Again, I know nothing about differentials. I do engine work on performance boats...not that much applies to off-roading laugh ). Anyway, if the Lock-Right that is currently available is for the 31-spline version of the H233B axle, but still for the same axle, what is the real difference between the 33-spline and 31-spline (um...other than the number of splines on the axle itself)? Is the 31-spline carrier a different size? If it fits in the same axle as we all have, my guess would be that it's not. So what else about the carrier/3rd is actually different? Is it a matter of the bearings and races that pair up with the individual axles on the carrier that comes from the 31-spline axle? If so, wouldn't it be possible to put a Lock-Right in an open carrier from a 31-spline axle, and replace the bearings and races with those from a 33-spline?

Having never taken the 3rd apart that far (or doing anything other than changing diff oil, for that matter), this is boggling my mind. Please help! [Crybaby]

Also...Porsche...is there a simple way to "reset the backlash" when reassembling the 3rd? (For instance, replacing factory open diff with a factory LSD in order to do some experimenting with the open carrier). Thanks for your continued help guys...one of these days my ride will be what it dreams of being laugh
