You are in luck!

The altered suspension shock works on a stock truck...no PML, ...actually....nothing, required.

So - You can get the Bil for the 3" lift kit...and run it on a stock X...or one with a PML, or even one with a 3" lift....no problems.

You may not even need a mechanic....PML stuff is easy...and there are a ton of great write ups, with pics, etc...available to guide you through it.

Its a driveway type project witha few simple hand tools and a can of nut blaster...(To dissolve the rust welds...), and a can of anti-seize (To prevent new rust welds...).

Shocks just involve essentially one bolt on each end....very straight forward...figure 5-10 minutes/shock if you are holding a wrench for the first time.

Cranking the t-bars just requires (2) 19 mm wrenches, or a ratchet and one wrench, etc....take of the lock nut, turn the bolt head up until the trucks at the new height, re-tighten the lock nuts....Figure ~ 45 - 60 minutes the first time.

Replacing the shackles is where most neophytes get confused...but essentially, you take the weight off (Hold up the truck on jack stands), take the two bolts out of each old shackle, put on the new ones the same way...and you're done....about 2 hours for your first one (Both sides total), and maybe 45 minutes to do both sides the second time when you show a freind how to do it, etc...

So - Figure on a half day adventure on average, and give yourself a full day to do it, incase you smash a finger or something.

You just need a wheel alignment when you're done...the suspension lift changes the alignment specs...and the new alignment will keep you from eating up tires, etc.

So - Hopefully, that's the starting point you were looking for.

Check out www.xterrafirma.com for some good write ups with pics.
