I don't rock crawl, no suspension mods, but I do carry full load on forest service roads and backcountry jeep trails. One mechanic recently told me I'd be needing new shocks soon, another one says they're fine. I do seem to notice a little bit more sway after 5+ years but it might be the power of suggestion. I'm at 7500 miles, maybe half of it off pavement. When would anyone recommend shock replacement and what shocks would be right for what I do?

5+ years, and I believe you mean 75,000 miles...you do need new shocks. Almost everyone will tell you Bilstiens. Get Bilstiens. There are other very good shocks, but you can't go wrong with them.

I assume you mean 75,000 miles?

If so, I'd opt for new shocks - the stockers suck. You can search for more info in this forum, but most folks here think Bilsteins are the best bet (including me). They'll make a noticeable difference on-road, and a huge difference on those wash-board FS roads.

I got mine from eshocks - pretty cheap and fast shiping.

Thanks all! And yes, I did mean 75,000 miles. Shock time it is. The one shop recommended Bilstiens too. I'll get them before I head into the Sierras next month. Too bad no Utah or Nevada for me this summer; have to stay relatively close to home.

5 years 75,000 miles? I can't believe you went that long. I pulled mine for a Bilstein upgrade on my 02 X at 50,000 miles and 2 years. They were flat. I mean no Shock capabilities left. They were so flat that I should have pulled that at 35,000 miles. So once you put new shocks on it will be like a new truck.
