I've been running no swaybars for a couple years now. And now that my girl is driving it more on our camping trips,I had to come up with something. I'm usually entering the trail late at night to avoid all traffic. So unbolting the bushings and leaving the front swaybar bang around didn't appeal to me. I just preferred it off.
well I'll be testing my new (old modified)front swaybar. first thing I did was chop the thing in half laugh . the next thing I did was take a 10" peice of pipe, slide it over one side and welded it 5" onto one side of the swaybar. then I slide them together and drilled 2 hole on the other side equally space thorough the 5" pipe. Then one more hole for a zerk fitting in the center. I'm using two pins from an old set of rear quick disconnects.
If my welds hold and the pipe I used can handle the torsion loads, I can have the front disconnected in seconds!!
No pictures til I can find my card reader, (just moved).

Mine comes off easy just un-bolt from the LCA and the cross member....then just turn the wheel all the way to the side and slide the sway bar out, no skid plate to un-bolt. and done....

but I like the idea....is it harder with an aftermarket skid...

I don't have the skidplate on so it's not a problem. Bodylift and ARB. The truck drives a lot better and no funny noises laugh .

what about just removing one side (bushings and such), and leaving the other alone.. shouldn't rattle..

I think it'll come in contact with the lower a arm and the tie-rod on top.

I came up with a similar idea for my truck's swaybar:

Pathfinder swaybar disconnect

My idea is more complicated than yours, but is similar in principle. The Pathfinder swaybar is loaded not only torsionally but also in shear, since the center portion is offset from the axis of rotation.

Since I never implemented my concept, I've simply been running sans front sway bar for 2 years.

I'm interested to see how your solution holds up long-term; whether it starts making noises over time, how much effect the 10" of pipe has on the swaybar, both engaged and disengaged.

Dean, so far on the road is great. I keep both ends in the pipe to prevent them from flayling around. I didn't think one pin could handle the stress either. After I drive it a little more I'll see how easy the pins come out.
when I can get the camera downloaded I'll have some picks of it and the custom stereo and cb install laugh . I've been busy. [Wave]

I think you need to undercoat that truck.
