Hello All,

I was fortunate enough to have my wife's 2002 Saturn L100 rear-ended and totaled a couple of weeks ago by some typical sorry-a$$ SoCal driver. I say "fortunate" because we now have a 2003 4x4 X we were able to pick up with the insurance money. I'm looking at doing the Poor man's lift, but it's hard to imagine what the 1.5" lift would look like.

Could people post pics of their PMLs in this thread so I could get an idea?

I did a search and got less than stellar results.

Thanks in Advance!

ted

The absolutely BEST way to see how you would look with a 1.5" lift, assuming you can't just imagine the tires staying on the ground, and the rest going up 1.5"...is to measure the wheel well peaks at all 4 corners, and then, put a jack under the truck, and jack up 1.5", with jack stands as needed if no floor jack..etc.

Then stand back, and look at the truck from all angles....that's it...exactly what YOUR truck will look like.

laugh

(It will look about the same, but 1.5" taller if that saves you any time.)

wink

Other trucks have different sized tires, especially after the PML...so the tire/well spacing won't look like your truck anyway...but, if you are also doing an upsize on the tires, that might be ok.

Good Luck!

i'll tell you right now, funk, if personal testimony counts for anything, the poors man's lift makes a big difference. I put it on, and then had to take it off, and it made a huge difference: the way it looked and the way it rode. I love the way the X looks with the PML. And most other people notice the difference, too. For 50$, its unbeatable.

My PML was the reason i bought my 3" lift.

By this do you mean it had a negative effect? Or are you just stating that there was a difference in the ride. I'd assume maybe its more jittery, handling is changed by center of gravity being higher, etc...

He took it off because the dealer would not work on it with the shackels on. Since the dealer thought that the shackels had something to do with a rock finding its way into the lower control arm.

Yeah, I was thinking of maybe getting 16X8 steel wheels and 265/75 All terrains. Unfortunately I do not yet have a jack or stands, so I'll have to rely on other's pictures.

Navy, I'll give those search words a try.

Thanks,

Ted

Make SURE you get rims with 5.25" of backspacing...if you get rims with less backspacing, you will get WAY more tire rub...I can't stress this enough (unles you listen, and then I guess I could...).

A ROCK!! IN MY LOWER CONTROL ARM! TWO WEEKS THE DEALER HAD MY TRUCK, AND THEY FOUND NOTHING! 30 MINUTES AT MY PARENTS MECHANIC, AND THEY FOUND THE ROCK AND REMOVED IT!! idiots...

I wish i hadn't fallen victim to the "we can't work on your car due to aftermarket products added to the suspension" BS...

regardless, now i'm ready for the 3" lift.

the shackles made a huge difference in the ride height, and its noticeable, absolutely. As for the comfort of the ride, the change is negligeable (sp?).

any further questions for me, please direct them to my spokesperson, schteve...

I was looking at either

AR 767 15x7 4" bs w/ 31x10.5r15 tires
or
US Wheel 84 16X8 5" bs w/ 265x75x16 tires

Do you think I'd have any problems fitting one or the other under a t-bar twist and calimini shackles?

Thanks.

oh, it's an '03 4x4

i just did my PML (or in my case, the PWL smile ) this afternoon.. it was really easy- thanks to finallyanxer for so graciously ignoring his work to help me when i ran into a pickle via AIM.. the front took me all of 20 minutes to raise- and the rear took a little longer because im a n00b and couldnt figureo ut how to lower my spare tire [Too much XOC] all in all, took me about 1.5hrs to do everything..

btw- the front now sits at 34" from ground to TDC of the wheelwell.. and 36" in the rear.. it actually turne dout to be more like a 2" lift all around instead of a 1.5.. dont know why, but it did..

Here's a few PML pics. Used the calmini shackles for 1.5 lift overall. Front came up a bit under, though, but I've taken it out in the rough fully loaded and appreciated having a bit of the factory rake to compensate for the extra weight.

Saving up for a new set of tires, now.

lol.. glad I could help! Betcha yer glad you didn't send the shackles back.

Looks nice! Now tires. smile Stick with the 15"s Get some 31x10.5x15s.

15"s will be cheaper and give ya more rubber between the road and the rim, giving better ride.

If you must get new rims, the 5" BS are close enough to the 5.25" BS you really want to work.

Definitely upsize and get some All-terrains. The PML looks gay with stock road tires.

Super PML
$50 or about $10 if you go get some 3/8 bar stock and a few bolts. Drill two holes in each of the four bars and you're done. Not that nice powdercoated blue, but it fit a college budget. I sprayed mine with a good undercoating.

Thanks for the info and the pics everyone.

Now, how about the spare? Are you guys running "31 or 32" inch tires on stock rims able to fit your spare in it's stock location? It looks like it'd be a tight fit. Should I post this question in the tire forum?
