#431004 - 04/06/05 10:39 PM leaf spring preload ?

Hey, I'm curious if preload affects a leaf spring differently than a coil spring...

I'm going to install my Tokico trek master kit with the composit leafs and I'm trying to figure out if I should set the snubbers on with the full preload or put some room in between them and the springs. Obviously I can see how it would impact the springs if the load leaf is in constant contact, I'm just curious if the preload also increases the spring rate as opposed to a coil spring that stays constant, as long as the rate is linear. Thats counting if the load leaf is added in to the overall rate.

As a subquestion, does anybody have any suggestions as far as how it works on their rig, I searched a little but didn't come up with any specifics. Thanks for the help!

Okay, since nobody has answered so far, I guess I'll provide an update:

Shocks and load leafs are installed now and I've noticed a better ride on the street, however the load leafs seem to be canted forward and I'm worried about them getting hung up off-road. I'd say I've lost nearly 2" of clearance due to the new leafs. I haven't trimmed the snubbers at all and the leafs have a second hole to locate them further forward on the axle, I'm not sure if this will fix the issue though. My analisis is the setup is good for the street, but I may be swapping out the tokico leafs for the stock ones to get the clearance back, if anybody has had a different experience, let me know.
