Wrong.

The vaccum axles were only produced from around late '81 - '86 if you believe the FSJ guys on their boards. The '86+ axles have a track bar mount you have to cut off. That's the only difference. Beyond that, if you find one of the newer ones, it's a given that it's NOT a vacuum axle, and an extra 10 minutes with the grinder nets you an axle identical to the 80-85 models.
