Yes - a rear ARB locker is BY FAR the best mod for the money to make your truck better offroad (well, maybe after swapping HT's for MT's).

I went for the body lift to help avoid some of the problems you mention. It doesn't change the steering geometry and is therefore easier on stuff (though with the bigger tires you'll still wear out the stock stuff and risk breaking it more than if you were totally stock).. plus it is cheap.
