So I was looking at my X today while walking towards it in the parking deck, and I thought to myself "It sure looks Face Down Ass Up" When I got home I took out the trusty tape measure.

When I first did the PML, I swear there was only a 3/4" slope difference between the top of the rear wheelwell to the top of the front wheelwell.

Now that I've added the front Shrock bumper and the new MM winch, there is almost 3" difference between them with all the weight on the front nose.

I looked at the front bumpstops and there was about an inch and a half of room, so I went and jacked up the front end to crank the torsion bars some more to try and even things out.

To make this long story come to an end....I think I'm out of adjustment room. What are your recommendations. Do I need to get the HD Torsion bars, or can I re-index these to get some more adjustment room?

If I choose to try and re-index these.....I'm open to all suggestions. I hear its a pain in the arse to get them out of the adjusters???

Thoughts?

PB Blaster is your friend, spray everything a few times and give it a chance to work, like a week or more. You have room to reindex, but if you want to upgrade now would be the time.

Thanks soccerbrace!

That thread over on XterraFirma is exactly what I was looking for.

I think I may get the wife started on the PB Blaster tomorrow night while I'm at work.

She can follow the pictures. laugh

The XF page says perfectly level with the back....any opinions on perfectly level vs a small slope like from the factory.

Yeah - Re-indexing is good.

If you have the $, the new T-Bars will provide more control. Some people just re-index the oems's until they are shot/wrung out...and THEN get new bars, etc.

It all depends upon your budget and patience.

The labor to re-index, and the labor to install new bars, takes me about the same time...so its pretty much a question of if you have $200 or so laying around for improving things long term or need to buy time, etc.

Ok, This afternoon I'm following the instructions over on XterraFirma about re-indexing my front end, and I'm good until one point.

What is the best way to get a t-bar out of the front anchor when it is stuck? My drivers side bar is stuck in the anchor and I cannot get it out!

I've got some more PB blaster sitting on it while I type and get some water, so if anyone is reading this and has a solution, I'm waiting wink

The two main T-Bar extraction tricks I use are a drift pin from the rear of the cross member through the adjuster hole to knock the bar forward if stuck at the rear...

and if the front is stuck, BFH-ing the adjuster finger rearward typically pulls it out if the rear is still stuck too

...or, loosen the three LCA anchor bolts, slide quarter(s) behind the tbar, and tap the front anchor torwards the LCA.

Either way...the bar comes out.

Got the whole re-indexing done the other night, and took her for an alignment yesterday.

She's back to having the one inch slope from back to front now....when i measured before re-indexing, the one side was 2.5 inches, and the passenger side was closer to 3. (could that .5 inch be because of the full tank of gas?)

How much room is left between bump stops and UCA now? Did that improve with re-indexing?
