Sony has had some format successes, but also many failures.

My biggest issue with Sony is they seem to refuse to use current standards - and instead try to come up with something new just so they don't have to pay royalities to other companies. This would be fine, but the result is usually more expensive and less quality. And then when it fails, you are stuck with a failed format.
