Hey all newbie here so patience please. Bought a 2000 xterra couple of months ago and love it. Haven't used the 4wd since I bought it till last night. While driving I started hearing a tinging noise like something was hitting the under body. Then sporadically my gas pedal or under my gas pedal would grind/pulsate. Pulsations felt like something pushing the gas pedal out as i pushed in. Hope this description makes sense kinda hard to describe. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with me using 4wd. Could this have something to do with drive shaft or CV? Has anyone had this before? Any help would be great!

Don't know about the gas pedal, but the "tinging" noise sounds like the heat shields on the exhaust. They rust and then vibrate which gives you the "tinging" noise. Check them. If they are loose, just remove them. You can do without them very easily.

Good luck on the gas pedal. Maybe someone will have an idea...

If you are driving in slick weather, the pulsating grinding sounds are the traction control. At least that's what it is on my 06 X.

The problem seems to have gone away today. Weird thing is when I put into 4wd the problem doesn't start till i make a right turn. After it starts if I change to 2wd the problem persists until I stop and reverse then everything is ok. Could this possibly been an issue with the auto locking hubs?
