me and my boyfriend live on the shore but are surrounded by national and state forrest. We just got our first 4 wheel ride, a 2000 se. We customized a Dodge van 5 years ago and travel the country in it. Vans are fun too, but not xterra fun! We had ours stuck 2 hours after signing our papers for it. You can easily seat 9 friends and then 2 coolers full of beer on the roof!

Hunting and fishing as a kid we needed a four wheel drive truck to get to the good places in SW Montana. Have always had a four wheel drive truck, would never want to be without one!

Uh, I grew up with CJ's and my family was very active in a Jeep club. My Brother and my Dad even built a CJ5 out of parts from the junkyard...would love to find that one; very pretty and quite powerful. Dad did all his own metal fabrication and everything too. Anyway, we spent many weekends and then some out of the year 4 wheeling, camping, socializing, whatever. Sometimes we would go for a week in the camper and tow the Jeep behind. It was definately one of my more memorable things we did as a family. It was just natural to want to get back into it as an adult.

is it just me, or is going through deep water and mud the funnest thing in the world?
i odn't know why, but i look forward to stream crossings more than anything when i wheel. maybe it gives me nostalgia about my childhood when i used to play in the rain/mud.
or maybe it's because it's the best way to get your xterra dirty and it just looks damn good dirty.

I have to say that in all the vehicles I've owned, I haven't had more fun or met so many cool people who enjoy doing the same things I do, since I bought the X.

I was flipping a U shortly after I bought the X, and realized only after I did it and was driving off that I just flipped a U on a one lane road with the same ease as my Miata or 240sx - but I did it in an SUV!

I didn't even think about it at the time - that impressed me afterwords!

As for 4x4, I have yet to get the bug since I haven't been out yet (damn 60-80 hour work weeks) but I am anticipating much fun with the X. I picked up a set of sliders from a local member that needed to unload them, and am trying to decide on what to do next - probably add some more armor underneath, get a basket for the roof rack, some gas cans, a bumper, winch, maybe a lift and some tires.... see, it just never ends laugh

And I thought the list of performance mods for the Miata could get long!

Nevermind getting some trail experience, learning all the little tricks, and the best end result - getting back into the great outdoors! I miss hiking and camping...
