Hi all. The syncros on our 2000 3.3 4x2 5 speed manual tranny are on the way out. The XTerra has just about 84,000 and hasn't been used much for play, if at all. Is this a problem to expect from this transmission? Other experiences or ideas are welcome. Andy K.

No joke. I just got my Centerforce DF clutch, new throwout bearing, pilot bushing (which was previously making noise), flywheel resurfaced, along with my Calmini T-case gears installed.

Now Im questioning the Tranny itself..Jeez, thanks for the downers, guys... [Uh Oh !]

I wonder if your synchros do poop out, whether double-clutching might be the way to keep driving until you can afford the repairs or find a complete tranny at the wreckers.

I double-clutch out of habit, but has anyone actually tried it on something with blown synchros?

2000 SE 5-speed, 94000 baby miles on it, just lost 1st gear today. I too recently noticed the shifter wobbling in first, but i just figured it always did & I never noticed. today i got the loud thunp & grind. now just grinds & pops out of 1st.

btw, mine is black.

Hmmm, that lever on the right is starting to look just as good as the one on the left:

I used to have a 2000 4x2 5-speed and I was getting some tranny noise as early as about 60k miles (just out of warranty, of course) and 1st was starting to get difficult to engage when my daughter totalled the truck for me.

I initially was just going to be partially satisified with the auto tranny in the replacement truck, but it's looking a little better every day...

Tried it on one of my old chevy 3/4 tons when I lost the syncro, it works to an extent, but is still a pain. You're almost better off shifting it without the clutch, just hit the revs right and you can do it.

99,604 miles on my X, and I grenaded my 5sp.
All but $50 was covered by the extended warranty.

Luckily for me, due to the shrapnel in the case, Nissan decided to replace the case, and the guts.

All new gear, so I'm good for another 100k
