Alternate fix for hood squeak.

On a lark tried a new approach to getting the hood squeak sorted out. Fiddling with the spacers helped but did not eliminate the squeak. I used a rubber mallet and *carefully* tapped the loop on the hood over 1/4inch toward the driver side. It had been very close to the passenger side of the catch mechanism. No more squeak for about a month now. I waited to post to see if it was really gone... YMMV.
Now if I could get the BCM box to stop rattling and find the wiring harness slap behind the guage cluster I'd be even more pleased.

Had the hood squeak on and off for the last few months, finally fixed it today! I was at a Home Depot and got some sticky anti skid dots that you put under chair/furniture legs. They're non skid material, not the felt ones, and about 1/8" thick or so. You can't go too thick or else it might bend your hood corners. I then stuck the dots on the spots on the body where the hood bumpers touch them. It makes the fit more snug, no more rubbing on bumpy surface driving, and NO MORE SQUEAKS! Cost me $3. How has it worked out? The dealer also put something similar in mine, but the squeak came back fairly quickly.

I also put the chair stops on mine (the felt kind though). Put them on about three months ago and the squeak is gone.

For the questions regarding the fix, it has cured the squeak, not a peep (at least from the hood) since I've done it. Now trying to figure out how to make the rear hatch cover stop squeaking!

He's right! This is a solid fix...no squeaks whatsoever after I added the non-slip furniture pads....This board is so great!

The hood squeak problem is caused by metal on metal rubbing when hood latch has too much give, so anything that raises the hood up will eliminate both the give and the squeaking.
In my case, the OEM threaded hood stoppers stripped out when I was in Moab over the summer. The OEM stoppers would vibrate and turn deeper and deeper into the hood, lowering it and exacerbating the squeaking. So I made my own stoppers and covered them with a rubber chair leg protector. This solved my problem of the hood sinking lower and lower.
I originally tried the anti-skid foam dots, too, but for me, they proved to be a temporary fix only. Keep in mind that I spent five weeks last summer zooming around on backcountry roads in southern Utah. In addition to the OEM hood stops falling apart, I had a couple of plastic panels pop off the dash all by themselves, and a bad rattle develop under the steering wheel.
So, unless you're driving on a LOT of washboard roads, the anti-skid foam dot should be a cheap and simple way to keep your hood from squeaking.

I just had the dealer fix the hood squeak three days ago. I looks like they added a bunch of rubber spacers to the legs on the hood. Seems to have cured the squeak. I'll post pics later tonight.

I read this thread a couple of weeks ago, and only today happened to remember to buy some pads at the store today. Since I hadn't read the thread in awhile, I got the felt pads instead of the non-skid pads. Has anyone tried felt pads with success? I guess I'll give them a shot, since I have them, but just curious if anyone else has tried them.

I have had this squeek for about 12000 miles and has been driving me nuts. I found a thread on here that said they hit the hood striker with a hammer towards the drivers side. I decided to try it, after hitting the striker and thinking that it didn't move, it has fixed the noise. So I say why not try one hit with a hammer and a rag it might work for you guys.

The dealer used some cheap foam stickers that the rubber stoppers wore thru very fast...so the squeak came back real quick. I saw the felt ones at Home Depot, but finally found the anti-skid ones like yours at Lowe's, put them in last night, and drove really slowly up and down the same bumpy stretch on my street over and over, with my ears peeled...well, long story short, none of my neighbors called the cops on me, and that damn squeak is gone! GONE!! Before this, I was happy to be getting rid of my X to get a pickup for my home projects. Now I'm actually sad that I have to say goodbye to it. ![[Crybaby]](graemlins/crybaby.gif)

Got some of the pads made of non-skid material, and that has done the trick once and for all (well, hopefully, but it's been over a month now with not the slightest squeak).

has anybody had both the BCM box squeaky rattke and the hook squeak? I'm almost not sure that the sound under the dash is really in there now. A description of where the hood noise sounds like it is coming from would be nice.
I still think i have the dash noise though. want to go through this so i can return to the dealer if i can't get it myself.

After reading this thred thru a search. I used some left over cabinet cushions. You know the silicon ones that keep the drawers and doors on your kitchen cabinets from slapping wood on wood. It has worked so far for 3 weeks. Hey if it lasts until I open the hood again I can put in new ones. They are cheap and well it is a small inconvenience, considering I have had absolutely no issues with my 06'. I will post an update of what it looks like when I open the hood again.

After using the thin felt pads and cranking the rubber stops up the my squeak never went away.
Then I looked at the alignment of the hood strike and the latch. I loosened the latch and adjusted so the strike was in the center of the latch.
I retighten the bolts on the latch to the proper torque.
No more squeak!
