Im looking to get an Xterra, but I'm wondering how important the Sport Package is. I know it ads the limited slip diff, but without, it what does the Xterra have? and is it an adequate system?
Also, what option gives you the silver interior trim?
thanks.

The general concensus on this board is that the factory LSD is pretty weak. It's better than nothing, if it were free.
If you're looking to get a 2004, you'll notice the Sport Package is only available if you also get the World Championship package. Altogether that's about $1700 worth of options that you may or may not want.
I wouldn't pay all that just for the LSD, if that's what your main concern is.
The foglights can be bought from someone else aftermarket, and of better quality. The underhood outlets is a bit odd to everyone, especially since they're not even actual outlets (like the ones you see inside the vehicle). The front tow hook in the Sport Package can be easily bought aftermarket as well.
I would say get the World Championship Package, but not the Sport.

Ditto to the above statement...The LSD is not that great on the X's...I had a 2WD Xterra, and that one had the LSD, and was not all that great...my current X is Open...but, maybe after I pay the Sucker off, I'll install a Locker or someting...but something is better than nothing...

I'm a noob, as you can probably tell, I thought all 4x4 systems will have some sort of a special rear end? What does it have if it didn't have the LSD?

My theory is you are useless at a boat ramp without one.

The rear differential on a 4x4 is the same as a 4x2. Hypothetically. I mean, maybe as an incentive a company might throw something in there to make people buy the 4x4 or something. But other than that the differentials are the same. The difference between a 4x4 and a 4x2 is the transfer case. A transfer case will get you a lot farther than any traction device alone. If you have money however, you can have both .

i wish i coulda gotten one with the sports package. you're probably not going to find an X without the WCP package. it includes the roof rack and all the other goodies. finding aftermarket fogs are becoming a pain in my butt because i really dont wanna spend $200 on em but it looks like im going to have to. the sport package also come with a Heavy Duty alternator so i'd say those 2 things right there are worth the $400 for the sport package. throw in the LSD and tow hooks and its a good deal i think. they had the X on the lot that was a 5 speed and not silver (didn't have a color preferance as long as it wasn't silver) so i bought it. i'd bet if i made them look for the specific one i wanted they woudln't have given me a good deal so i went with this. i'm still happy tho...

The 00-02 LSDs are at least useful, the 03/04 ones are de-tuned so much as to be useless.

If you can wait a bit...the 2005's are coming out...and they'll have a rear locker option...and a bunch of other improvements. ![[Wave]](graemlins/wave.gif)
