We have a local venue opening here outside Atlanta soon. The name is a mouthful - Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre At Encore Park. The Eagles will be one of the first bands to appear there, on May 14. There are two ticket options: Lawn tickets @ $65 each, or anywhere else for...are you ready for this? $185 each plus $19.20 in "convenience fees". [Freak]

Seating Chart

So I was pretty shocked by those ticket prices and thought they'd be lucky to sell out the show. I mean, over two hundred bucks after fees to see a concert? No f***ing way, right?

Ha! Soon after the first show went on sale, they added another one. And then another one. And today, ANOTHER ONE. The Eagles are now playing this place May 14, 16, 17, and 20. Those are so far the only U.S. dates scheduled on their tour.

Am I just behind the times, still living back in the days when I saw the then-named John Cougar open for Heart in 1978 for like $20? Or are those Eagles ticket prices as ridiculous as they seem?

How much would you pay, and to see who?

I payed a little over $100 to see the Eagles play about two years ago. And the seats weren't all that great. But then again I went to the U2 concert and payed about $35 and was 30ft from the stage. If its seating vs. standing you are going to pay more.

Well.... You have to figure that some of these old time rockers are getting pretty old. The concert tickets need to be expensive to cover things like their prostate operations and hip replacements.

Maybe $200 is a lot for the Eagles. $2000 for a Hannah Montana concert is well worth the cost though. [Freak]

$200 is a little steep. Went and saw Rush for about $65 a piece and Counting Crows / Goo Goo Dolls in a joint concert for about $40 a piece last year. I'd probably do the lawn seats for $65 a piece if I just had to go to that one.

Now THERE is an over-priced show!

laugh

I think I paid $19.50 to see Rush on the Grace Under Pressure Tour in '85/86.

It's really only worth whatver YOU are willing to pay. I'd pay 200 to see Foo Fighters. The eagles however..I think you'd have to pay me. They were good in their time but if I want to see old people I'll look at my parents.

Yeah, obviously it's in the eye of the beholder. For example, I paid $75 for a ticket to see the Saints and Packers at Lambeau...in the preseason. Flew up to Milwaukee from Atlanta (flight cost = $0 as I was an airline employee at the time), rented a car, paid for a hotel, so on and so forth...but it was well worth it to sit 6 rows from the field, so close you could smell the grass, and to have the "Lambeau experience," which was amazing even for a preseason game. It easily blew away any regular season game I've attended in Atlanta.

The Eagles are greedy bastards with a shitty new album (seriously, I bought it and I'm probably gonna toss it unless someone wants to pony up $5+shipping for it). They've been notorious over the past decade for ludicrous ticket prices.

My wife is a huge Bon Jovi fan and we saw them here the last couple tours...I think I paid about $80 each for lower level tickets 2 years ago. They're coming back in April and those same seats jumped up to something like $140 each. I told her sorry, we're not going. Greed exceeds return.

I liked it in the 80s when $20 would get you in to see just about anyone.

Agreed - Their new album sucks balls. I love their 'Farewell 1 Tour - Live From Melbourne' DVD tho, with mostly old stuff on.

Guess it wasn't their Farewell tour after all! lol

I paid $300 for two tickets to Van Halen next Saturday. Floor seats, Row 35. My bf has been excited and talking about it since December. He's like a little kid.

I'm honestly not trying to be a smart ass over here... That was just the first thought that sprang to mind. laugh

My own personal limits would be about $100/ticket.

I tried to get a pair of Genesis tickets that were $1500 for the pair but they sold out both days. Front couple rows seating, reserved parking, and some other perks.

Not like I'd go every weekend.

I paid $300 for fifth row center Yes tickets and $250 for 2nd row Blue Man Group concert tickets. It's only money.

Another waste of money. I saw them back in about 88 or 89. They weren't that great then in concert.

Rush was awesome in concert...I could see paying more for them. Yes (90125 tour) was decent.

Best shows I've seen were small venue shows - where there was interaction and the artists actually seemed to be enjoying it as much as the audience. Indigo Girls, Crowded House, 10,000 Maniacs (with Natalie), Sarah McLachlan...those were all great shows.

Mid sized shows...REM was good (Life's Rich Pageant), INXS was good (Kick).

Seeing as how I'd find it extremely hard to justify more than 50 or 60 per ticket for ANYONE, I don't see myself seeing too many shows any more.

I struggle paying anything for tickets.

I used to produce concerts. Sucks having a seat when you previously had all access passes. Lots of fun shows during the mid 1980's. I know that was before many on XOC were born.

Hey Midnight, my wife and I will be at the same Van Halen concert too. Ask your boyfriend if he is a Rush fan or if you are as well, they will be here in April I think, tickets are up now at the Jacksonville Memorial Arena website.

On topic... Iron Maiden is currently on tour and I would easily pay $500 per ticket for front row for them. Only band in the world I will pay over $100 to see.

UP THE FUCKING IRONS !!!!

I'd pay $100 a seat to see Sinatra! When he was alive of course.

I first saw them in 1976 on their "Trick of the Tail" concert, then the "Wind and Wuthering", and "Seconds Out". By 88/89 Gabriel was long long gone and Collins was working half-time for himself making Genesis a different band. I enjoy the "covers" of the older stuff still. I went to Tokoyo to see Phil Collins and the Hot Tub Club and the Budhacan in 1983ish. Genesis strayed from the prog-rock and was looking for FM-radio play by the mid-80's

I saw Rush for the first time back in 1975 during their "Caress of Steel" tour, later on the "2112", "All the Worlds a Stage", "Hemispheres" and finally "Permanet Waves".

My first Yes concert was the "Relayer" tour, later I saw them in the round with Wakeman back on "Tormato". Without Wakeman the band was much different.

Shit, I'd gladly pay double that to see Zombie Sinatra kick out the undead classics, and then eat the faces off of Bono and Barbra and other big name vocalists. Throw in surprise guest Zombie Sammi to do "I've Got You Under My Brains" and guess what bitches, you got a MOTHERFUCKIN' SHOW!!!

Easy to say when you've got it. No offense, but people in the real world would have to make some significant sacrifices to drop that kind of money on a concert.

Agreed. I saw Live twice, once at the Tabernacle in Atlanta and once at one of the coolest venues I've ever seen - the Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham. Both were small venues and both shows were awesome. The one in Birmingham was open, i.e. the "building" was only tall support beams with a roof on top. It was a beautiful night and a great show.

Yeah, same here about buying airline tickets. When I was an airline employee, it was awesome to be able to hop a flight anywhere in the world for basically free. No more! frown

the Most i have ever payed for a concert was 75 bucks. I went to the Summer Saniturium(sp) tour in 2000. Metallica-Minus James Hetfield since the idiot got injured on a jet ski-Korn, Kid Rock, System of A Down and Powerman 5000. I left after Korn played because the thoughts of listening to Jonathan Davis and Kid Rock doing lead vocals for Metallica just didnt work for me.

HELL YES we are into Rush. I'm waiting for my bonus at work to get those tix. smile

By the way, if any of you are into Indie bands, they tour for REALLY cheap, at much smaller venues, and the shows are just as good. I'm buying tickets to see The Walkmen in St. Augustine at a little Cafe for $10! So kewl.

Edited to delete so many smilies. I'm a dork.
