What the fuck?!??!?!

There was a credit to my account yesterday titled "US TREASURY 220 TAX REFUND / (my name)" for $57.40... WTF?

I was told that this was based on adjusted income.... apparently not?!

That sucks... Not that I really NEED the money - but since I thought I was getting it I was kind of planning on it.

Poor, Glenard.

I end in 65 and the site says May 9th, though I am not sure how accurate that is.

There is something wrong Kaiser. That doesn't sound right at all.

As far as I know, the minimum amount for the stimulus/welfare is $300. Even people who paid ZERO federal taxes are getting at least $300.

I haven't heard or read a single thing about adjusted payments for the stimulus/welfare. All you needed was $3000 in income and file a return on time to be eligible for at least $300.

Higher earning taxpayers are getting nothing.

NYMM - I'm on the high end - but I thought I was still low enough to get the full $600.

I looked up the irs site and found out how they prorate... They multiply the amount of your Adjusted Gross Income over $75k by 0.05 (5%) and subtract that from your amount.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what "Adjusted Gross Income" is... I thought it was the amount that you paid taxes on after all your deductions had been subtracted (thus the word "adjusted")... but it looks like they used my actual gross income before deductions (I'll have to check the numbers when I get home, but it appears that's what they did).

Effing accountants and their confusing lingo mad

AGI is your tax liability. At least the figure used to calculate your tax liability. There is a line on your 1040 that lists the amount.

However, I don't think the stimulus/welfare makes any adjustments to the amounts they are paying you.

Either you qualify or you don't. The payments are in increments divisible by $300 depending on AGI and dependents and filing/marital status.

If they gave you $57 or whatever it was... it sounds wrong. It sounds like you were fucked.

I'd call the IRS directly. Your paperboy is getting at least $300. You should be getting more than that.

Kaiser....

Upon further checking on this issue it does appear that they are giving less money depending on your AGI and filing status.

I wasn't aware of this caveat.

It sucks.

The IRS has a calculator to figure out how much you get back.

Apparently I make too much and am not getting back anything. I didn't realize there was the 5% deduction over 75k. Bummer, I was hoping for a little extra money.

Okay... turns out I was right on this. I stupidly made the assumption that this was the same as Taxable Income... it isn't. AGI is basically ALL of your income added together with almost NO deductions taken out of it.

Guess I shouldn't have assumed frown

Kaiser... Actually adjusted gross income is the income they base your tax liability on after all of your deductions are calculated.

You were correct regarding the reduced payments in this stimulus/welfare package.

Yup, no joy yet.

And I have a SSN that ends in 2*.

In fact, my SSN and my SIN (Canada) end in the same digits. Huh!

Rats on the payment, though. frown

Still looking for mine. Should have gotten it by May 2. The government was kind enough to withdraw what I owed them through direct draft immediately, but maybe they'll take thier time and mail me what they owe me.
