Radiohead is good 'feeling sorry for yourself' music. OK Computer is one of the most underrated and unknown cd's of the last 20 years.

You'd have to live under a rock to not know about that album. It was up for Album of the Year way back when.

Don't get me started on defending this band. They are geniuses in my book. They are NOT emo. They've been around since the 90's, before "emo" was even a word. And "OK COMPUTER" is on EVERY "top albums of all time" list. It's not underrated. Everyone appreciates that album for what it is.

Creative... innovative... intelligent... talented... always evolving... the best live performance I've ever seen...

Liz likes Radiohead cause not a single one of their songs have ever been played on any radio station. That's what makes a band cool.

They're a good enough band, but nothing about them merits the distinction of "Bad-ass." I know they're pre-emo, hence the term "godfathers of...."

I heard that they are switching record labels, so they are giving fans the choice of downloading it online for whatever price they think is fair or paying like $80 bucks for the CD, a vinyl record, and some bonus stuff that comes out in before Christmas.

Kid A is my favorite album of theirs, it's really when they changed as a band and there hasn't been a new Radiohead song that I haven't liked.

This year I saw Bjork, The Beastie Boys and The Killers at Red Rocks. I'm not really into the Killers (not like the rest of the audience, anyway), but they're good enough and I got a pair of tickets cheap.

I picked up Icky Thump when it came out, and I recently picked up discs by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Louis XIV, Jose Gonzalez and Charles Mingus.

I just don't particularly like Radiohead. I never could get into any of their albums, even OK Computer. Thom York's whining on "Karma Police" grates on my nerves.

Funny you mention this. I was just watching "Pink Floyd: Live in Pompeii" this weekend (for the third time) with some friends who are in a rock band, and when Roger Waters was in the studio playing with all this equipment and making strange sounds with it, I turned to my friend and said, "Radiohead does that stuff. They are very similar bands."

Excellent! We should start a classic rock thread. So much good stuff in the past that not a lot of young people appreciate nowadays.

I've never seen it on a top 5 ever list. Not that it's not great...but top 5? C'mon. I've never seen it in the top 50 of a list. Top 100, sure...but not more.

Funny thing is, Rolling Stone puts The Bends above OK Computer.

You wouldn't expect someone that likes to argue so much listen to such mellow music. I was expecting death metal or some whiny The Cure.

I'd put The Bends above Pablo Honey, which in turn is above OK Computer.

I was never into death metal type music. Sometimes a metal band does something right like in this cover version of Metallica doing Bob Seeger's Turn the Page . Awesome song. Crank it up.

Just downloaded the new album. Burned a CD and will be listening to it today. It will rock, I'm sure.

Just downloaded it myself. So far I like what I hear. It doesn't have that 'right out of the box' accessibility that The Bends or OK Computer has but I still think I like it.

It took me numerous numerous listenings to appreciate Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail To The Thief, but I ended up at first appreciating and then really liking all three.

I hope Rainbows is the same.

How many songs are on this album? (I can't get to their website right now to look myself.) Twenty bucks seems like a lot when you can get albums at iTunes for $10. Did you just "donate" a little extra because you like the band?

I couldn't get through on inrainbows.com so I just downloaded it via torrent. Once it becomes available in stores or reliable to download online I'll pay ~$15 for it. I've bought all their other albums on CD, I prefer having a physical disc I can throw in the X or loan to friends.

A review:

There are some good spots on this disk, but overall I am disappointed. I think Radiohead decided to toss all of their distortion boxes in the trash, and with that their ability to write anything that has a hook.

Sonically the songs are interesting but there is no real structure. The songs are very linear from a composition standpoint. The drums come off as machine like in many of the tunes even to the point of not being able to tell the difference.

Thom York seems to have eschewed melody for a sonic mishmash that comes off as random at worst, aimless at best. You can tell the guy can sing and there are some good vocal moments. But most of the songs seem unfinished, or parts of songs where noise and sound effects were added to make up for the lack of structure or hook.

I understand Radiohead are trying to stay interesting and different, but sometimes interesting and different does not mean good.

I want to hear some "songs" again from these guys. Not some jam like sonic experiments. I had enough of that on Kid A and Amnesiac.

Thom Yorke is a brilliant melody writer, one only has to listen to High And Dry, Fake Plastic Trees, Planet Telex, even Creep.

The music he is singing over does not lend itself to this concept. Perhaps that is their goal, but after 6 listens, this CD still just sounds like mostly noise to me.

This band used to ROCK. This CD does not rock in any way. It would probably be best to have it playing in the backround while pulling tubes from your favorite bong.
