The country has always been divided along political lines. The only difference is that today it gets more attention because there is more information available to the public across more mediums.

Am thinking a 3rd party candidate is making more and more sense, and one could likely do very well in 2008.

Third parties sound good in conversation, but in practice and reality they do nothing but help one of the other two parties into office.

A moderate steps out of party lines on key issues.

Example: Rudy Guliani is a moderate - he's a republican, but beleves in abortion rights, gay rights, blah blah blah. That's a stand. He's a gun control fanatic, which is one reason I wouldn't vote for him, but you get the idea. I don't think you have to be a radical left or right winger to take a stand on things.

Rudy is not a moderate. That is a media label.

Rudy is a liberal.

I do, however, think Hillary and Obama are both radical liberals - especially Hillary, and having her as president would have grave long term consequences on our liberties.
Without a doubt it would have grave consequences.

Just look at the Democrats currently in control of Congress. They are already proving their contempt for the US Constitution. Their latest scheme is a power grab to give delegates from US territories the full congressional voting rights of US Representatives from states.
