I posted this in another thread, but it fits here better...
Honestly, I think every single one of the Republicans in this election are "also-rans". I don't think a single one of them can overcome the Billary / Obama machines, and Ron Paul is just enough of a factor to work to take votes away from the only potential Republican candidates. Add to that a general national disgust with the current administration and a deep desire because of that disgust to try anything other than a conservative Republican. The Dems have it in the bag. God help us.

God help us. You're gonna be surprised come election... SO many people don't want a women or a black man in office regardless of their affiliation and that's the sad truth of the matter. It will be a republican in office simply because of that fact alone. I can't stand Hillary or Guilani so I won't vote for them. I can't stand Obama's stance on gun control and a few other issues so I doubt I'd vote for him. That leaves one of the reps, and the only two I really like pretty much don't have a chance anyway. Chances are I probably won't vote at all....again... The Dems big battle cry is "time for change" but I'm not seeing anything that I consider change. Just more of the same rhetoric. The reps for the most part are just driving forward with a status quo approach as usual which also leaves bile in my throat. I guess all in all, anyone but Guilani or Hillary and I'll be happy, though I won't cast a vote for any of the current "front runners" anyway. I read somewhere that we don't have two teams looking for our vote, but one team playing shirts and skins......

Hey Desert Rat: I know you hate McCain.... what are your thoughts if it comes down to him VS Obama or Hillary (well, I can guess on the Hillary one)?
I'm so conflicted.... there is at least one thing that I hate about all the candidates... I'm having trouble picking one. Not that it matters.... when it comes to the real election, Texas will go to the republican candidate... period. You might be surprised at this, but I'd take Hillary over Obama anytime. Obama has no platform. His campaign speeches are extremely shallow and offer no direction on policy. He campaigns on slogans of Hope and Change alone without truly elaborating what those changes are. Facts: Hillary and Obama are both anti-2nd amendment rights and Hillary has gone so far as to support potential UN resolutions that would impact US citizens and their right to bear arms. Both want socialized medicine, and while I haven't heard much on Obama's plan, Hillary wants you to pay for it directly, but only if you're in an income bracket to afford it. To me the worst of the republicans are still better than the best of the dems. I have two big hangups with McCain: His temper and his pro-amensty stance on illegal immigration. Still, I'd vote for him over Obama and Hillary. As I've stated previously in this thread, the lesser of all evils concept has me pulling for Romney. If Huckabee gets the nomination, that will pose the biggest dilemma of all, as I don't think someone that far on the right should be running this country either, and evengelicals should honestly stay in church and out of politics. As for Rift's comments, I'm not so sure that Hillary or Obama could run away with this. Hillary will draw a lot of people out to vote against her. Obama....at some point he's going to have to start showing some substance. The cross party debates will be interesting after the primaries if he wins the nomination. I think McCain and Romney could tear him up. Huckabee...not so much.

He supports all these international treaties that would harm US sovereignty like Law of the Sea Treaty, the International Criminal Court, the entire global warming fraud and all the international treaties and massive expenses that would go along with that. There is much more about McCain, but he is just as bad or worse than any Democrat. That's why the media loves him. He's the "maverick".

Interesting interview of former Sen. Rick Santorum by Hugh Hewitt discussing John Mccain. Link... Santorum knew McCain in the senate and nails him... - Well, number one, John McCain will not get the base of the Republican Party. I mean, there was a reason John McCain collapsed last year, and it’s because he was the frontrunner, and everybody in the Republican Party got a chance to look at him. And when they looked at him, they wait well, wait a minute, he’s not with us on almost all of the core issues of…on the economic side, he was against the President’s tax cuts, he was bad on immigration. On the environment, he’s absolutely terrible. He buys into the complete left wing environmentalist movement in this country. He is for bigger government on a whole laundry list of issues. He was…I mean, on medical care, I mean, he was for re-importation of drugs. I mean, you can go on down the list. I mean, this is a guy who on a lot of the core economic issues, is not even close to being a moderate, in my opinion. And then on the issue of, on social conservative issues, you point to me one time John McCain ever took to the floor of the United States Senate to talk about a social conservative issue. It never happened. I mean, this is a guy who says he believes in these things, but I can tell you, inside the room, when we were in these meetings, there was nobody who fought harder not to have these votes before the United States Senate on some of the most important social conservative issues, whether it’s marriage or abortion or the like. He always fought against us to even bring them up, because he was uncomfortable voting for them. So I mean, this is just not a guy I think in the end that washes with the mainstream of the Republican Party.
He also mentions the possibility of a clear front runner not emerging for the Republicans after Super Tuesday and a nominee not being determined until the convention in September. . I think that would be the best thing for the party. No clear front runner and the nominee chosen at the convention. ..................................... There is also another Republican candidate debate tonight at 9PM EST on Fox News.

At this point I'm kind of hoping Bloomberg enters the race.

He wants the government to dictate everything from what you can eat, to removing your cigarettes and guns. It used to be a lot cheaper living in NY before Bloomberg. He's probably one of the politicians in this country I hate the most.

Mostly because I think he would be better then Obama and Hillary and I think he could win. I don't think any of the current Republicans can win. I would prefer Fred or Newt. Originally posted by NY Madman: Originally posted by great pyr-hauler:

You have to be optimistic bro. Also... Bloomberg wouldn't win a presidential race. He's extremely wealthy, but he is a short, very liberal, Jewish guy from New York. With all the hatred for Jews and Zionist type conspiracy bullshit out there, he is not a Jewish guy that could win. Not a multi-billioniare Jewish media mogul. It's not going to happen.

The Republican party would be committing suicide by allowing Huckabee to win the nomination.

The media loves him and pushes him because they know he will hurt the party and lose to the Democrats. He's got a lot of bad things in his past. He seems to have some problems with his family too. 10 years ago when one of his son's was 17, he put a rope around a tree at a Boy Scout camp and hung a stray dog. Huckabee had his state police cover the whole thing up. Even fired a top police official who voiced concern to Huckabee about the whole thing being covered up. That same son was also arrested last year on a gun charge. I think it was for trying to bring a gun through an airport.
