There's a bit of that, but that doesn't make it less stupid. Seriously. They gave the prize to Arafat. Someone who thought it's a good idea to strap explosives to a young kid and send them into the middle of a nightclub or shopping mall to blow themselves and a bunch of civilians up. They also gave it to Gore for his slideshow instead of a woman who smuggled Jewish children out of the Warsaw ghetto so they'd live (and had severe beatings, including broken legs and all).

Yeah - this award is mostly crap at that this point, but this is like them just giving up all semblance of rationality or authority on the subject.
