I have a 30GB 5th gen Video Ipod, I have used it so much that the battery life was down to about 30 minutes on a full charge, I dropped by Bestbuy (Geek Squad) to see what they would charge for a replacement battery and was quoted $79 !!!. I bought a 760mhz (or what it is called) battery online which is about twice the strenght of the original one for $14.95, It came yesterday morning.

Replacing the battery yourself is not recommended unless you have a sense of what you are doing. it took me about 10 minutes to replace (how 2's can be found online) where after I charged the battery for 5 hours.

It has now been playing for 11 hours ELEVEN FRIGGIN HOURS!!! and still shows 1/4 juice left. I am a happy camper smile

If it's as easy and cheap to do it, why wouldn't everyone do it? What's the downside to this? Does it void warranty or something?

I think the fear factor prevents most people from doing the repair themselves. Better to pay $79 as opposed to a new iPod!!!!

Yes it does void the warrant. In my case the warranty had expired and I was looking at a doorstop if I did not do something. as I said if you do not know what you are doing it can be a bit tricky:

Instructions can be found here:

Battery Replacement

It is not brain surgery, and it saved me $65 hence I thought I would share it.

In the video they offer replacement for $29.95 I recon it is with shipping, which would run me close to the amount above from Canaduh...
