You can barely hear it at idle, and even during normal driving conditions, it isn't much louder than my intake (cone filter). Under harder acceleration, it sounds nice inside, but still not what I'd call loud. Full throttle sounds great! I got the muffler for $65 on EBay, and the install/tailpipe was $115. The intake/exhaust combo counteracted a large chunk of the oomph I lost by adding 32" Pro Comps...
Super 40 is great. A regular 40 resonates more and might seem louder inside the truck, and I can't imagine buying a 50 series-way too quiet.

So there actually are 2 different Flowmaster 40 series mufflers? Also do you get any drone inside the cab at part throttle?

There are a few types of 40 series Flowmasters out there. The original 40 series 2 chamber, the Delta Flow 2 chamber, and the Super 40. The Super 40 employs the latest design, and is somewhat quieter and deeper, with the highest HP gain of all 3. It is not loud, but it does resonate a little between 1600-1800 RPM. By "a little", I mean "a little"-not loud at all. If you were in my X, you might notice it. Non-Xterra passengers don't even ask. The tone of the exhaust is great, and I'd buy a super 40 again. [ThumbsUp]

Hello, Just installed a Calmini cat back exhaust.
Simple to do ,took less than 1 1/2 hours.

The sound to me is just right without being too loud. Looks great from behind. It is NOT loud...if you are looking to get attention.

Someone point out the muffler rust fast....so I will spray some heat rust prevention type of paint on it! ........Aloha

PS: I wanted to order gibson first (They do not deliver to Hawaii) ...yet the auto parts stores can get them? ...you fiqure?

providing/obtaining dyno charts for the simple bolt ons would be the best way to determine which setup would provide the most HP gains. yes i admit it, i used to drive a honda. i never dynod the SOB but with the 3 major bolt ons (intake, headers, exhaust) id estimate that i obtained a mere 10-15 hp. but anyways, why would you wanna race an x? for shits and giggles i guess.
