I've just installed the Nismo Cold Air Intake (16576-RND25) on my 2001 Xterra and I have one question and a couple of small problems with the installation.

1: Is the air filter supplied "pre-oiled" or do I have to spray the filter with K&N filter oil? This is not stated in the instructions.

2: The heat shield appears to be about 1/2" too tall. After installing the new intake, I cannot close the hood properly. Is there a smaller heat shield available or can I just cut about 1/2" off the bottom of the heat shield?

3: The 3/16" hose, which at one end attaches to the MAF sensor adapter pipe and at the other end, a vacum fitting on the vehicle. I'm not sure, but my 2001 Xterra does not appear to have a vacum fitting at the other end.?

Any ideas guys? confused

Thanks,

Paulgw.

The 3/16" line should be the one seen here, follow the Volant logo orientation up/right to the edge of the box, you'll see the line from that point to the fitting on the bracket directly to the left of the hood bumper on the fender.

Thanks for the info' and the photo, mate.

But my 2001 Xterra definately doesn't have anywhere for the 3/16" pipe to go!

What does the 3/16" pipe eventually connect to on your Xterra?

Thanks,

Paul.

I'm pretty certain that's just a feed to the MAP/BARO solenoid, which directs the input to the pressure sensor from either the manifold or the ambient air depending on whatever parameters determine which is needed. The line in question just goes to the airbox ahead of the filter to supply the BARO input, which is essentially just getting a reading equivalent to anywhere else, you can just leave the line disconnected and it shouldn't know any different.

If its a real K&N it should be pre oiled. It Should be a reddish color. If its white then it needs oil.

Yeah, mine's blue, and pretty grungy. That pic is from Volant's site, just handy for reference.
