Interesting... dunno if the science is junk or not - but they certainly seem like they've put a lot of effort into it

I googled the product looking for a review. That thing is sold all over the place but I was unable to find 1 single review (that didn't look totally fake. From what I can tell though is that its pretty popular in the ricer community.

Weapon R is HUGE in ricer world. They have been around forever. I just don't know or heaven't heard on here about an X with their intake.

So do you happen to know if the "Secret Weapon" is truly a secret weapon? Read anything unbiased about them?

Excerpted rocket science:

By creating a higher airspeed in the intake path, you increase air mass and airspeed, which greatly increases horsepower.

When the two different paths of air meet, they create a vacuum, which is where the airspeed starts to multiply, forcing more air into the engine at a higher rate and thus creating more horsepower. [Freak]

Shorter version:

1. By creating a higher airspeed you increase airspeed. eek

2. Making the air go faster makes it heavier? eek

3. Making the air go thru a tube INSIDE a tube makes the air in both tubes go different speeds.

4. Air travelling at different speeds creates a vacuum, sucking more air into the engine?

[Freak]

Looks like an intake with a filter on the end.

The gibberish they quote is garbage...they leave out the added resistance of two tubes vs one, and also are pretending that the slight pressure difference created by the two tube flow is stronger than the drag required to pull it through in the first place.

If they were not insane and or stupid and or just ripping people off...it would mean that you could mount one of these on your roof, and drive a bit, and then let the vacuum created by the two different flows pull you along for free, etc. eek

So - if you want an open element intake with a foam filter on the end...it might act as an open element filter on an intake...which in itself is typically less restrictive than a closed airbox...

Of course, if you do get an open element filter, and you go into some water, it will be sucked into the engine, rather than the airbox with a water trap.

Weapon R are very high quality intakes. I know they have been proven on the race track being used on 4-cyliner high compression engines. They DO make power on stock engines before tuning. We saw gains on simple 1.6L cars equipped with header and exhaust of around 4-6hp at the wheels. Which is a large gain at the WHEELS for just an intake.

Like I said...an open intake is less restrictive in of itself...so performance improvements can be had just from that....its just their BS about WHY it works is annoying.

Isn't there a MAF right after the filter?
How would that interfere with the pipe in a pipe design?

well im sure that the model shown is just an example by the manufacturer to show the feature of the intake...the one for the xterra im sure has a spot for the MAF

any aftermarket "intake, filter charger, etc." provides more power through less restriction. The biggest problem being the filter. I personally would only trust a few high-end japanese filters like HKS/Greddy and K&N. The filters that you get with inexpensive kits are merely sand and rock strainers. Just good enough to call it a filter. Heat and vibrations usually get the best of the cheap filters within a few months. The glue that holds the paper element separates from the plastic and metal it is bonded to, causing a filter bypass. On the hot dusty trail, this will cause excessive wear on your engine with the quickness. At my previous job, I managed a landscaping company. We had a airfilter installed incorrectly(had a small gap near the seal). The tractor was serviced in the spring and by mid summer the engine had cracked and worn piston rings. Enough preaching here, buy a good filter or leave it stock. No weapon R, unless ur a mall rider.
