If you are getting a P0740 your torque converter is the issue. since it is a torque converter you have an A/T. could be just a bad solenoid, or a stuck valve in the tranny.
When was the last time that you had the tranny serviced?
Well stick me in the corner and color me stupid! We wouldn't have a torque converter on a manual, now would we?
