I have been hearing noises in the rear end of my xterra when I drive. Someone told me that is the wheel bearings well I have done both sides and still hear the whinning sounds. We have drained the diff and the fluid was brown can someone help me?? I there a bearing in the rear diff?? Where can I get a new or used rear diff??

IS it still under waranty? all of the barings in the rear diff can be replaced if that is the problem. Have you done anything else, like a lift?

If is the rear diff, you will never know untill you pull the rear cover and take a look, or at least have someone else do it.

2005 Nissan xterra off road package, 110000miles, used on highway not ever in water. There is no lift it is all factory. I have changed the rear wheel bearing because thats where we thought the noise was from but it wasn't its in the rear diff. If there are bearing how many??

Just a thought, someone else just went through the "sound coming from the rear end" situation,..... after checking several things, turned out to be the tires wearing bad, just a thought.

we have lifted it on jacks and still made a sound

I have a 05 as well and i hear the noise when on the freeway going 65+
