You can swap just the third member instead of the entire thing. A lot easier to do, than the entire axle.

On second thought, just re-pack you 03 and call it done. With the milage on either of them I highly doubt that there is any actual work being done by them anyway.

The break away torque on the '01's is much better than on the almost worthless '03's.

IE: The LSD on the '01 could be about shot, and STILL be better than a brand new '03.

Food for thought.

is that even possible?

Well, it can be possible as a higher geared rear end gives more speed than lower gearing.

Lower Gearing is for better power/acceleration, like 1st gear on a 10 speed bike.....

And Higher Gearing is for reducing your RPM at high speed, like 10th speed on that 10 speed bike.

So, sure, its possible...depending on what you started with.

If you started with 4.9's, you could go to 4.6's for example, and reduce hwy rpm....if engine redline is your limiting factor in getting to top speed.

Of course, given the brick-like aerodynamics of the X, etc...the redline might NOT be what is limiting your speed.

MOST of us go the other way with gearing, going to LOWER GEARS, to get more power at lower speeds, especially off road where you want your power down low in speed, to crawl along with enough torque to climb things...

So, what's your RPM at your current top speed?

Heck the RPMs aren't the problem with top speed. There is an engine governor at 99mph on my 2001 5spd and I can do that without red lining in 4th gear...

I found this out when my wife (she was my girlfriend at the time) was in a wreck and I drove to the scene to make sure she was ok...

you want the 4.90 or the 5.13 ($). Are you 4X4 or not? I have the 5.13 and they drive great with 33's, rpm wasn't to high.
