for starters, do not buy an X if you want good MPG's,... Its not their way......
I have the SC model, yes you got to run the good stuff in it and my average mpg's sit right at 14, that was while I was running the non ethanol gas, havent done the numbers yet to see what if anything I lost since they took the non ethanol away, but it's a pretty safe bet that it wont be any better. whats the miles on the one your looking at,... the biggest thing to find out (if you can) is if the Timing Belt Job has been done yet. they say it should be done by 105k miles and includes all belts, water pump, t-stat, tensionor, seals etc..... but the other way of looking at it is, belts, like tires can dry rot, so , even if its under the 105k, its still reaching the 7 year mark, so may need to be changed anyway... the complete belt kit can be bought for right around $300 bucks at Courtesyparts.com. instal price? you'd have to find out , or spend a few hours doing it yourself. Also, I think I just heard today that there was a recall which included the 03's , but cant remember what it was for so look into that also. good luck.....
