That would be the recall on the fuel sending unit under the back seat. The connectors were corroding due to not being sealed well. Nissan had a recall for this and I believe (I may be wrong) it has expired.

This would explain some of the daughter's issues. But not sure it would fully. In any event, take out the passenger side lower seat in the back (there's two tabs under the seat - just pull them. It's made to come out so you can lay the back seat down flat). Under there is a panel to remove. Take that off and you'll see the connector on the fuel sending unit. Check to see if it is corroded. If it is, clean it up and seal it well with electrical grease to prevent it from corroding again. Like I said, it may not be the issue, but sounds like it could be adding to it anyway.
