Just a guess based on this quote:

"We'll show the next Maxima in New York and a couple of other things — but not concepts," Nissan North America spokesman Darryll Harrison told Inside Line"

Meaning that in addition to the redesigned Maxima they will be introducing a couple other production vehicles...Just a guess but the oldest vehicles in their fleet other than the Maxima would be the X and the Z which are both due for a redesign...NYC auto show is 2 months away and is where Nissan introduced the 2nd gen X a few years ago...

I hate when auto manufacturers redesign their vehicles. makes me feel my vehicle is getting older.

By whose standards? Are design cycles really just 4-5 years these days? It seems like they just started making the gen 2 to me.

Me too. But then again, 2Gen only started 3 years ago...

Just my guess, but wouldn't the GT-R be one of these?

It's time for a redesign of the X. Remember the did a cosmetic redesign on Gen 1 only after a couple years...

No..the 2nd gen's have been out for 4 model years: '05, '06, '07, '08

and no, the GT-R has already had its debut in Tokyo...as has the redesigned Murano...Sentra is 2 model years old, Versa is 2 model years old, Altima is 2 model years old...Hmm...now the Quest is old...hadn't thought of that...it hasn't been redesigned in at least 4 model years....

That's the whole idea. They need to make you FEEL like your vehicle is old so you'll keep buying new ones!

I have no high hopes for the next x.
Most car companies take a good thing, and then try to civilize and womanize it, to hope for more sales.
And they will make it, exactly the type of vehicle, that we who are on line, purchased it for, and make it unbuyable.
Sort of like dodge did, with anything they had worth a damn. Or even what for has let the explorer become. Making it so low, so that a woman would be comfortable buying it, but taking the guts out of it.
Look at the durango. Nice truck, when first issued, but they rounded everything up, and it looks like a mini van now.
Oh well, I hope for the best.

Stay safe

Check out this "Autoweek" article:

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060816/FREE/60814018/1041

It says the X is due for a facelift in 2009 or 2010. No info has been leaked yet.

The Maxima is schedule to be redone in '09 as well as possibly the 350Z and they are supposedly debuting a "Cube" to compete with Scion.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed that the X doesn't follow the trend of the Pathfinder and go from offroad-worthy to urban crawler.

With the new Murano coming out in a couple of months I would be surprised if Nissan would also come out with a changed Xterra unless the changes are quite minor. My guess (and hope) is for a redesign in 2010 rather than cosmetic changes in 2009, then a redesign in 2011. Nissan needs to hurry with a third gen Xterra or they will lose market share. And I agree that it is important for Nissan to keep the Xterra rugged rather than making it some sort of gussied up Murano.

_Lazza

PS - not sure if a third gen Xterra would impact first gen resale value. The first gens have desirable attributes not shared with second gens (, and vica-versa). I suspect there will be first gen loyalists out there for years to come.

Looks like one of the "new" Nisan models to be introduced in NYC in March will be the Nissan Cube...they just announced that they will now be making it for the US market though its been available in Japan since 1998 I believe...

Ironically, that's how some people feel about the 2nd Gen X. Though "womanize" isn't accurate in the X's case, they did abandon the original X concept. In keeping with a "family of vehicles" strategy, they made the X into a mini-Pathfinder. They only kept the stepped roof and tailgate hump as styling cues for marketing purposes.

Without a more dependable drivetrain I.e. Rear/Front Diffs, I won't have any interest in a redesign. Not to mention the Cost of buying one and what you loose if you have something go wrong when you make a mistake.
<-------
I will say the safety features are always welcome with a redesign.
