After researching and driving the Nissan Xterra
and the Toyota FJ cruiser....
I am going to have to go with the FJ Cruiser.
The Xterra is nice, but the FJ cruiser is better.
Goodbye HEEP Rubicon, Hello Toyota FJC !!!! smile
Thanks folks

You obviously havent driven the FJ, it rides way
better than the Xterra.
I drove an Xterra SE yesterday, and the FJC today.
IMHO, the FJ is a much better ride.

Well, it's your money, so go with what you like the best. As far as which one is better, sounds like yo plan to modify it anyway. So equally moded vehicles should be equally capable.

Really, the best vehicle is the one with the best modifications.

Hey, didn't 4Wheel and Offroad rate the "FJ" lower than the KIA Sorento in their 4x4 of the year comparison? laugh

Congrats. smile

Though I think the X is a better vehicle, the FJ certainly isn't a bad one - you'll be happy and will have lots of success picking up hot guys.

(I HAD to get in a small dig wink )

Convince me why the Xterra is better than the FJC.

Enjoy whatever you get. ITs up to you. Of course us X owners want you to get an X I mean come on. They are tough trucks and run well with simple to no mods. I dont know much about the FJ they are starting to grow on me but I wouldnt own one for the simple fact they are just to new. First couple yrs always tough for new vehicles.

My brother has an FJ and I have an X. Both are almost equal in all aspects of their off road abilites. When one truck gets tippy on an obstacle then so does the other. When one has trouble and needs the locker so does the other.

I do like the cool factor of the FJ better, but the X is more practical for my famil with the full size rear doors.

My wife has a hard enough time not running into things without the big blind spots in the FJ. wink

I don't think you could go wrong with either one of these trucks and both are very capable offroad. Enjoy your purchase! [ThumbsUp]

The best vehicle is the one you want and are happy with. I dont like the looks of the stock FJ but modded they are pretty sweet. I parked next to a modded one a couple of weeks ago. 33" BFG's, ARB bumper, Gobi rack... it was cool lookin. I dont know much about their capabilities though.

From what I've seen, they are both reliable, and do well off road about the same.

The main complaints from those with them has been visibility...lots of blind spots, and off road, hard to maneuver with the hood blocking the view up front, and the high belt line windows blocking the view out the back and sides.

The X is faster on the road, with better handling. The FJ rides softer though.

The FJ has better protection of electrical like the alternator, and the intake for the engine is better protected, but the diffs, etc, are about about the same in protection.

The differences are such that you could probably get which ever one you prefered, and be happy with it....depending upon how important the above factors are to you.

The main complaint about the FJ from people who didn't buy one, is that everyone thinks they're gay....and even straight people who like the FJ shy away...kind of like straight people who are afraid to wear a pink shirt to work...even if they think they look good in pink, etc.

laugh

So - if you like the FJ enough to put up with that, hey, as a truck, its OK.

If you find later that the stylish exterior is not as much fun as you'd hoped...there's no problem reselling the FJ's, as the soccer moms ADORE them, because they're SO cute.

laugh

1. FJ is brand spanking new.. Hence there are bound to be flaws that are going have to have to fixed.
2. The following of xterras is really a great group of folks.

3. The FJ looks like a lifted element.

Really thou they are both great, but one is untested and was just put on the market do you want to be one of test subjects, esp. with all the recalls toyota has been having lately?
