How to identify if you have an SE or XE model

Hello all, This is my first post. I recently purchased a used 2002 Xterra. When looking for replacement parts, I am asked if it's an XE or an SE. How can I tell what model it is if there are no stickers/badges? I've owned a '93 Pathfinder which was an XE. It had stickers on it that had the XE-V6.
Thanks, Anthony

I actually looked thru the owners manual. The XE has 15" rims and the SE has either 16" or 17" rims. I haven't had a chance to look. But I believe they are 16" rims on my vehicle.

This won't help you, but mine is an XE World Champ package with 16" rims. I don't even know what all the package came with other than it was the only manual transmission X I could get for many many many miles?
Xterra World Championship Pkg -Inc: Aux 12-Volt Pwr Point, 16" Alloy 4-SpokeWheels,P265/70R16 Tires, First Aid Kit, Retractable Cargo Cover, Tilt Steering Wheel, Tubular StepRails, Variable IntermittentFrontWipers, Cruise Control,Pwr Windows,Pwr Door Locks, Pwr Mirrors, Remote Keyless Entry,Door Fabric Trim, Map Lights, Vehicle Security System, Triathalon Backpack
Just looked it up... still doesn't help you

Yeah - I think e is right. All of the SE's have a badge on the back (mine does too). Also, on the '03's and '04's, the SE's got the charcoal colored rack and wheels and some other trim too. My only thought was that maybe the badge was gone. The only way to tell for sure is to check the VIN.
So if there's no SE badge, it's most likely an XE or a base (but being a base is doubtful, there weren't very many IIRC). If's its a V6, it HAS to be at least an XE. And as far as replacement parts, most are interchangeable, unless of course it's something specific to the SE's (like the coloring). Other than that, all parts should fit either.

If's its a V6, it HAS to be at least an XE. I know there was a 4Cyl, and then a 3.3Ltr and a 3.6Ltr V6 engine. That doesn't sound right. The Pathfinders were the first to come out with the XE and SE editions. I believe the dealer told me the SE stood for Sport Edition. These had bigger rims/wheels, roof rack, side rails, factory brush guard, rear mounted spare tire, etc. I had a '93 XE-V6 model, but I had a rear mounted spare where most were stored in the cargo area, no roof rack and I added after market brush guard and step rails/nerf bars and rear tail-light guards.

just go by the tire size. That works.

just go by the tire size. That works. And if you've swapped rims and/or tires? What then? Nothing says you can't put 16's on a base model (they came with 15's on the 1st Gen's). Or what if you have 16's? On 1st Gens, that would make it an XE/SE. But on 2nd Gen's it would make it an S, I believe as the XE/SE's have 17's (stock). Or to quote, "I have a rocket launcher. Your logic is invalid!" The only FOR SURE way is to check the VIN. But there are other methods, as mentioned (badging, engine size, etc.) And no, never heard of a 3.6 in an X. Not stock anyway... -G

Good grief.
The SE models got the SE badge on the back, the XE models didn't. The SE models got the sunroof and leather wheel and knobs. The 4-banger was XE only. If it wasn't an SE, it was an XE, period. There was no "base" model.
There is no 3.6L Nissan engine. The Pathfinder got a 3.5L around 2000, but that's irrelevant here.
