sry I'm still new. What do locking wheel hubs do and when should they be activated?

Locking hubs allow you to put the vehicle into 4wd. Autolockers do it when you engage the lever while manuals you have to get out and lock both of them, then put it into 4wd.

If you have manual hubs on something I'd just lock them shortly before you think you'll need to go into 4wd, otherwise you're causing a lot of unnecessary drag. For the autos on the X to be disengaged you just need to back up about 10 feet if I'm remembering correctly.
