This may take a bit of explaining but I hope someone has an idea.

I have an Access97 database that starts Outlook 97 in order to send an email once its finished doing its job. The only way Outlook will start is if I am logged in to the server, if I log out, the job fails. I believe this is because Outlook97 isn't running.

I found an app called AlwaysUp which will let you run any program as a service on the box. I set it to run Outlook97 with a /profile "profile name" switch. Never ran.

So I modified the original programs batch file to start Outlook with the switch and am now waiting for its scheduled time, 10:15AM.

I cant upgrade nor modify the original program, nor can I use newer office products to do this. My only other option is to hack the program and modify it to send out snmp emails via Blat or something similar. Really don't want to go that route.

Any assistance or suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Wow, not a single response. smile

At this point I'm at a loss. I'm going to try and rework the prog, see if I can get it to use SNMP versus Outlook.

Does your company use exchange?

Why not just run a macro or a script in the DB via MAPI to send the email, instead of going through the outlook client?

We fear making changes to this DB, its crap and the original creator is long gone.

For now we're going to find it a new home on an old PC, let it stay logged in.

Thanks for responding. smile

Excel is the devil, Access is his disciple.
