I'm trying to insatall windows defender, I recieve the following message:

Error 1920. Service Windows defender Service(WinDefend) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

I'm running W2K w/ sp4,all patch fix update, and gdiplus.dll install

I searched the microsft site and in general and can't seem to find a fix...anyone have this happen or know what the fix is?

Are you logged in as an administrator?

Try starting it manually by going to START>RUN> and type SERVICES.MSC and enter, look for that service and right click it, then click on START.

Sounds like you don't have the priveledges to start services.

it's my own home computer....so i assume i'm logged in as the administrator, it's not networked with any other computers

do you mean start the .exe install file this way?

Do you get that error immediately when you try to install? Or somewhere after you try to install?

it gets about 3/4 of the way thru the install and then the message pops up

When that message pops up, try what I told you above, sounds like the service wont run, there will be a bunch of services listed but you should be able to find the one the software is asking for.

There are some apps that i have come across that actually have to be installed as administrator. Just being part of the admin group doesnt cut it. Poorly written software is to blame for that one. Let us know how you fair

i got further in the install per BeastMD's advice...however, i then received a different error message.....i believe my solution will be to not bother installing it....i already have Lavasoft and Spybot aoftware installed, so that should be enough....thanks for the help

You know if you stay away from the p0rn, spyware wouldn't be such an issue.
