I currently have a 2002 dodge dakota, but im on the verge to buy a 2002 nissan xterra SC, with more miles then what my present truck has. basically i wanna know from experienced xterra drivers if the '02 xterra sc is a good vechile to have and use off road and as a daily driver?
and the price im about to pay for it is $12,000. any comments would help.

We like 'em smile

Do some searching to find the common problems/issues that you need to watch out for... cracked exhaust manifolds, leaking rear main seal, window regulators, overheating etc.

It's a pretty solid and capable vehicle with a few predictable problems.

If you're getting this from a dealership try to make them replace all 4 window regulators as a condition of the purchase. Or if they won't, have them knock off $600-$800 dollars (because they will probably go bad)

I have an 02 as well (but no SC)and love the truck (aside from the aforementioned regulators) [Smoking]

Also, $12k seems kinda high to me for an '02 with 75k on it...but I didn't KBB the price to check. I'm sure you've done that.

sounds like a good price to me, i believe that's below KBB price. you might wanna run it through carfax. My X has 78,000 and i haven't had a single problem with reg. maint.
Buy it.
Enjoy it.

sounds good i'll deff look into a few more things ive seen mentioned here. i did look under the body ofcourse and the only problem i seen was both the catalitic converters were rusted out, so i'm going to make them take off about $450 so i can get a new exhaust from cat back.

I've got about 106,000 miles on my S/C. I've only had to replace the knock sensor. Everything else I replaced was 'cause I wanted to...love it.
