Could you please tell me what that chip does?

The chip allows you to play "Disc backups" of your Wii and Game cube games.
Also lets you watch DVD's on your Wii and play imported games.

I'm holding off on the mod chip for a while, until they offer an upgradeable or flashable one.

After reading the link you posted, and the thread attached to it, it seems as though that Nintendo can just update the firmware and render your mod chip useless.

Indeed - I'll hold off until there is an updateable one. But the fact that there is one out there at all means that won't be far off.

I love it how easily bypassed the Xbox 360 security was by a simple Firware update to the DVD drive.

Update - It is upgradeable via the DVD drive. Glad I ordered it

So how would one go about making a "disc backup"? Are the discs data DVD's or something else? I am interested in making backups to protect my game collection.
