College basketball is almost here and Coach Knight has already dismissed our star player:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2645330

Many coaches will look the other way on issues like this. However, when you play for Knight, you're learning the game of basketball AND getting an education. It's a shame you don't see this very often or maybe the NBA would have a better reputation.

On the other hand, I was looking forward to basketball season after this horrific football season. frown Oh well, there's a chance he'll still return if he does good in class.

Unless your name is Coach Huggins, most programs do enforce academic eligibility... :p

Oh good, he's back!

http://www.redraiders.com/stories/110606/mbb_110606016.shtml

After a disappointing football season, I've been looking forward to college basketball because we got some pretty good recruits and we're already off to a good start for next year's class.

Come on, isn't anyone else excited for college basketball? I know I started this thread out about Jackson, but feel free to show your support for your team. Tip-off is tomorrow with Coaches vs. Cancer Classic... College basketball is here! [ThumbsUp]

I was, but our AD didn't fire this guy after last season:

In terms of raw talent, we should contend for the conference title this year and go to the dance. With him at the helm, we'll be lucky to finish over .500. Supposedly he'll be gone after this season if he doesn't turn things around, but Malik Hariston will be gone by then. In case you don't know, Malik was a 5 star recruit and the highest rated HS player that didn't go to the NBA in '04. That class also included two four star kids and two three star kids. By way of comparison, Tech's '04 class consisted of three two star kids.

Understand my frustration?

Gig 'em Aggies!

Preseason #13... 4 returning starters from last year's team that narrowly lost to LSU, sending the Tigers off to the Final Four...

Yeah, and look how good we were last year. [Uh Oh !]

Only 11 more wins for coach Knight to become the all-time leader. laugh

Alright, I'm starting to come around. We just beat Georgetown on the road and are 6-0, and we did it with good defense and great rebounding. Plus, this is the first game our best player (Malik Hariston) played all year. The Big East officials were homers, but we overcame that and won anyway. We pretty much ran their butts into the ground and they couldn't keep up.

Our little 5'6" 160lb true freshman shooting guard is pretty damn good. [Huh?]

Villanova was looking pretty good until that loss to Drexel last week. [Uh Oh !] That's going to leave a mark.

With Sumpter healthy this year, I am realisticly hoping for a fourth place finish in the Big East meatgrinder.

HELL YEAH!!!!! [ThumbsUp] [ThumbsUp] [ThumbsUp] [ThumbsUp]

HUGE win against the #1 team in the country. That'll really help the RPI come selection time.

14-1, and our best player has only been in something like 6 games! cool

Welcome to Mac Court -

Where's his team ranked? :p

Wazzu dropped the Cats last night in OT. The Pac-10 is crazy this year, probably the best conference. I honestly think we'll get six teams into the dance, and another one or two into the NIT. The only teams that don't qualify as "good" or "very good" are Oregon State and Arizona State. The other 8 can all beat one another on any given night. cool

Sadly I wasn't at the game, but I imagine Mac was absolutely rocking. I was there when they almost took down stanford a few years ago (when they were ranked #1) - baskets and seats shaking and you had to yell your ass off to talk to anybody. Nobody sat for the whole game and my throat hurt for days. Mac at it's best is as loud as any venue in the country.

Spoken like a true football fan. wink I know this basketball thing is new to you guys, but you do realize that college basketball rankings are the most pointless rankings in all of college sports right? The closest thing to look at is the RPI and we're back to back in the mid 20's. Yours will go up with the win over UCLA, but so will ours with Arkansas beating Alabama. [Smoking]

Rankings mean nothing so long as you qualify for the dance at the end.

Go Bucks!

I was at the game, the only game that I have missed this year was the UC-Irvine game. It was the best game that I have been to in years, but the Ducks had a lot of unforced turnovers. Although the Ducks won, Brooks needs to slow down a bit. Half the time he looks like he is playing out of control, especailly when he drives to the hoop.

Big one coming up in the desert. I don't think we'll pull it off given that it's very tough a road game, but you never know. Malik did come back on Thursday against Arizona State after a several game layoff and have a solid 13 points and 8 boards in 20 minutes. If he can improve on that and our interior defense holds up, we've got a shot.

Brooks v. Shakur will be a really interesting matchup.

Nice - Oregon wins 79-77 over Arizona in Tucson. Brooks hit a runner with 2 seconds left to go up two, and Oregon held on for the win.

16-1 with wins over the two best teams in the conference (in what is quite possibly the best conference this year). Not too shabby. cool

17-1. [Smoking]

SI had us at #3 in the latest power rankings. That's high, imo, but the respect is nice.

The Pac-10 is considered the toughest conference this year by pretty much everybody.
