when someone replies to your post, is it possible to get an email? if so, where do I set this?

This feature was disabled a long time ago. Too many people signing up with fake email addresses is the reason why.

i find it hard to find threads that i've posted in. but when someone signs up, don't they have to activate their accounts to verify emails?

If you really need to find that old thread look at the bottom of any of YOUR posts.

Find the line like this:
Posts: 19 | From: Queens / Woodstock, NY | Registered: Jan 2006 | Member # 14388 | IP: Logged

Now if you click on the number next to posts "19" it will bring up all of that members posts or your own if it is your post.
