I did a search before i posted this thread, and i could not find what i was i looking for, so if this topic has been brought up before, please do not crucify me. I just bought a K&N replacement filter for my X, and it fits in the housing properly, but it seems to me that the cover that goes over the housing is a little bit tighter with the K&N filter. The cover looks like it has a good seal, but i was wondering if that cover being a little bit tighter is normal.

Yes that is normal, the K&N filters have a thicker seal around the outer edged then the normal paper ones.

After you leave the filter in for awhile, the rubber gasket will conform to fit the airbox and it will become easier to open/close. Don't worry about it.

One more thing, when i opened the box to the K&N filter, there were two soft rubber gasket seals that were to be installed , but looking at the illustaration, those were for a pull out tray for what looked like to be a different type of vehicle, because we all know that the X does not have a pull out air tray that the filter sits in. Does anyone know what i am talking about, and do you know what type of Nissan/Infiniti has that type of pull out air tray?

The Nissan Maxima my wife has (01) uses the same K&N filter, but it has a drop in style cartridge for the filter media, and uses those foam strips. I don't think any of the Xterras use those... toss them.

Not to worry. Don't need them. I didn't.
