I've never towed with my X, but am looking at renting a camper for a weekend. The camper weights 2,300lbs, and I figure with people and gear, the total weight towed will be close to 2,900. Should I have any problems towing this weight for approximately 200 miles in fairly flat Illinois with my 3,500lb rating for the manual tranny?

Thanks,Chris

Why do you think you would have a problem if your UNDER the maximum rating that the fine engineers at Nissan determined the vehicle could handle in this lawsuit-happy world we live in?

Do you have the I4 or the V6?

Either way you will be fine, i tow around a boat pretty often, even up at elevation... Works surprisingly well.

I still want to know why the manual V6 is rated lower than the auto... is the transmission the only weak link? or is it a liability thing?

See my sig wink

As I understand it, it's really just that few people could manipulate a clutch well enough to get more weight moving without slipping it to death, bucking the hell out of the driveline, or otherwise damaging something. If they made the clutch strong enough to handle 5000 lbs. it would probably be too damn heavy to operate.

Does not matter, both are rated to tow the same amount with the manual transmission.

the 4 banger would be a dog. My Frontier is rated to tow 3500 lbs too, but put that much weight behind it and I won't be able to get out of my own way.
