I hope this doesn't sound off the wall.

what are the chances of the 4.0 engine fitting in a 1st gen. The garage i used to work at has a 05 totaled.
i was thinking about it and having that 4.0 in my 02 wouldn't be too bad.

You would also have to swap the ECM , Transmission etc.

Lots of work, But if you have the time and money, go for it.

Throw enough money at it and you can make it work, but considering the entire engine/transmission/t-case/ECU/etc/etc/etc/ has to be swapped, I'd just as soon go with something completely different, maybe a V8, or a nice diesel, for the same trouble.

Loose the inner fenders and weld in some brackets...

Better yet, how's the frame on the totaled one? If it's still straight, then you might just throw your body on the newer frame. Now that, I would do.

the only reason i even considering doing it was that i was getting the 4.0 and any other part for free. by next month that truck will be in a scrap yard. so a V8 would be really nice but i don't want to have drop money on a motor as well.
