Misleading. While you cannot publicly worship, the "mere possession" of a bible is NOT a crime.

I don't get that one at all. Can someone please explain what it means?

Only a complete moron would equate that to a college hazing incident (which, as far as I can tell...is ALSO illegal).

So you say we shouldn't forget that...what should we do about the first 178 years of our country where we were NOT "One Nation Under God?" Or did YOU forget THAT?

Moby.... You really do live in left wing "La La Land".

The distribution of non-Muslim religious materials such as Bibles, is illegal in Saudi Arabia. There is no freedom of religion at all in that country. If you even get caught in public praying with a bible in your hand, you will be arrested.

Muslims who convert to another religion face a death sentence in Saudi Arabia.

There are numerous reports of Saudi Customs officials confiscating Bibles from visitors.

But... you people on the left seem to love the Saudis. You do everything in your power to keep us dependent on their oil, even though there is more oil under US territory than in all of Saudi Arabia.

I'll disregard your other left wing "talking points" and ask directly how this country was not a "Nation Under God" until 1967 according to you?

Read the quote again. "MERE POSSESSION." THAT is what was said. And I DID qualify my response by saying you couldn't PUBLICLY worship. So no...I was NOT wrong or in Lala land.

And I find it laughable that you claim the left love the Saudi's so much. The right loves them just as much, if not more. They turn their heads to the human rights abuses there.

Um...first I'd say work on your math. But the I realized you were going by the Constitution, where I was going by the Declaration. That technicality notwithstanding... the Pledge did NOT have "One nation under God" until 1954. End of story.

And NOWHERE before then did ANYTHING say we were a nation under God. NOWHERE. Unless you count the money...but that didn't happen until about 100 years into the country's life.

Public possession or display of the Bible is illegal in Saudi Arabia. You didn't qualify anything. You're intent was to challenge the assertions stated in Chia's post. You didn't do that. Chia's post clearly stated the possession of a bible, not public worship. You are the one who spun it into a public worship issue. You clearly stated possession of a Bible was not illegal. You are wrong.

Maybe you figure nothing is illegal until you are caught.

It's not the right that turns their head to the human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia. It's the U.S. State Department which is dominated by left wing career bureaucrats. It's not called "foggy bottom" as a term of endearment.

You're on the left and you immediately jumped into this thread with a bullshit statement and a lie trying to protect them.

Enough atheist bullet points. You never explained where or how you come up with your particular figure of 178 years and why that was supposed to be somehow significant to whatever argument you were presenting.

Wasn't I clear on that? I used the Declaration.

Subtract 1776 (Declaration) from 1954 (when "one nation under God" was ADDED to the pledge).

Um...yeah...that is 178.

I figured you put 1967 because you went by 1789, when the Constitution ratification was complete.

I'm not going to argue whether 1776 or 1789 is "correct" or not.

From the UK: Source

(Note that is says: "The Saudi authorities do accept the private practice of religions other than Islam, and you are allowed to bring a Bible into the country as long as it is for your personal use.")

From the US: Source

(Note that any mention of a bible being confiscated is when it's public or from a group that could be Proselytizing (i.e. a Philipino priest who was preaching.)

The internet is loaded with stories about Bibles being forbidden in Saudi Arabia. Just because the media sources in the US ignore it, doesn't mean it is not happening.

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/118411

You're not even allowed to wear a Christian cross over your clothes in view of others in that country.

From the "beloved" US State Department....

http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/irf/2004/35507.htm

Quote:
Customs officials routinely open mail and shipments to search for contraband, including Sunni printed material deemed incompatible with the Salafi tradition of Islam, Shi'a religious materials, and non-Muslim materials, such as Bibles and religious videotapes. Such materials are subject to confiscation, although rules appear to be applied arbitrarily.
Quote:

No. You weren't clear at all. The debate was about rights and you moved it to a bogus atheist argument about "Nation Under God".

Many atheists probably want to turn this country into the atheist version of Saudi Arabia.

Exactly which part of "public" do you not understand?

(And *nearly* all of those "stories" are on Christian websites just repeating what other Christian websites are claiming.)

No, it STARTED as an anti-muslim rant and then went into a bogus Bible thumping argument.

Who carries Bibles with them when they travel other than Christians?

I'm sure a Bible is really big on your packing list.

Are you saying Jewish newspapers and the US State Department are repeating bullshit from Christians?

Good Luck with that angle.

I didn't see any anti-Muslim rant going on. Maybe in "La La land" it may have looked that way.

Chia's list was criticizing our own society. It wasn't an anti-Muslim rant.

Um...I don't know ANY Christians who carry bibles with them when they travel unless they are going on missionary work or preaching...which is EXACTLY when it's illegal in Saudi Arabia.

And yes...I know many die-hard Christians. My parents are die-hard Catholics. My brother-in-law is a die-hard Catholic (and principal at a Catholic High School). My other brother-in-law is a die-hard Christian...as a matter of fact, he is a working priest in the Episcopalian church. I have a friend who is a born-again baptist.

Guess what...the only one who would carry a bible is the Priest...and ONLY if he's on a working trip (you know...like missionary work or preaching - which again...is when it's illegal in Saudi Arabia). If he's on a pleasure trip with his family...there is no need to have a bible. He knows the thing cover-to-cover.

Is that some kind of tacit approval of Saudi Arabia's laws and policy?

I think you are wrong. Many Christians carry copies of the bible with them whenever they travel. One of my brothers married a sort of "holy roller" and they carry a bible with them when they travel.... and they aren't missionaries and never do any preaching.

I think you have a misunderstanding of many religious people.

I also doubt Saudi Arabia would allow anyone to carry a copy of the Talmud into the country. But then again people on the left seem to accept the extreme hatred and bigotry of Jews by Muslims. Strange for people who always seem to claim to despise racism.

But anyway Moby... we can discuss this another time. I have to get up early tomorrow for a project to rape and destroy the environment and spread garbage that future generations will be dealing with. [ThumbsUp]

Interesting story from the Saudi Executioner: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/2966790.stm

I'm sure as hell not gonna piss him off! laugh

"Under the Gulf kingdom's strict Islamic Sharia laws, the death penalty can be imposed for murder, rape, apostasy, armed robbery, drug trafficking and repeated drug use."

Should hack off the heads of a few druggies here - might make em think twice about it! laugh
