so it is time for me to buy an new laptop and I am a college student so limited funds, i have built this laptop with "trying to save money" in mind. the only thing I did was upgrade the hard drive from 80gb to 120 gb. I mainly use my laptop for loading pictures from camera to laptop, downloading music (legally), using itunes, typing reports, and surfing the internet. so is this good enough do yall think? thanks. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=DNCWEA1&s=dhs

That's an awesome laptop for the needs you list. My wife has the same model and even plays games on hers, although not ideal for that use.

There are a bunch of coupons out there for 20% off $999. So if you can fill it out to $999 you'd be paying the same price, might want to keep that in mind.

Even with EPP discounts you can still use coupons, I have an EPP account with Dell through work and that's how I purchased my wifes laptop and her Dell Axim PDA.

if Mac is your thing your school might have something worked out with Apple so you can get a good discount on their stuff as well.

This is the same one I got and I like it. Dual core is fast, a gig of RAM is plenty, and the DVD burner works great! laugh

I'd add on the $150 student software package with Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Otherwise you're stuck with Microsoft Works. It's been a while, but I used all of those programs in college.
