A number of years ago, (and for only a very brief time) Polyurethane was a very popular "paint treatment" used by detailers and some dealers for that shiny "wet" look. They stripped all of the wax and then applied a thin film of Polyurethane.
The vehicle looked great for about 8 or 9 months (and as many and more washings) when areas of the Poly began to fade away. The result was a patchy finish, similar to a peeling sunburn until all of the Poly was stripped off, naturally over time or by hand.
It also seemed that the Poly coating was also some sorta marketing ploy where once you got it done you had to continue getting it done or your vehicle would look like shit.
Not to start another flame since the last topic was locked, but thought that this teflon coating could be confused with Polyurethane which does adhere to paint and was used a number of years ago, (and I believe is still in use here and there).
Think I will put on my Teflon flame-proof Level 4 de-con suit.
