What are the step rails made of (aside from the rubber pad)? How do you clean the metal part?

What's the best method of cleaning the alloy wheels of the SC? Is it best to use the soft bristle brushes or a sponge?

What's a nice tire cleaner that won't make 'em too shiny?

Thanks for your tips!!

Some type of spaghetti material. wink

Actually, they're a thin aluminum type substance - easily bendable too. The best way to clean them is soap and water and if there's road grime, try using some Simple Green or similar cleaner. It cleaned them up like new - I then sold them on eBay. laugh

The step rails are aluminum, but they're coated with some sort of textured paint-like material, I don't know what. I'd say Simple Green and a good bristle brush would probably be best on 'em.

I agree that the step rails are aluminum. I beleive they are powdercoated, but could be wrong.

As for cleaning your wheels, make sure they are cool to the touch and just use soap and water and a sponge. Most of the "Quicksilver" type cleaners will be too harsh on the finish in the long run. Since the wheels are essentially painted, you might want to wax them when you wax your truck too. It will help repel the brake dust and make cleaning a little easier.

As for tire shine, I use the Black Magic Tire Gel. It tends not to kick off a whole lot and if you rub the excess, off the tires just look clean with a slight shine, not wet like some products. Hope that helps.
