Water and a soft cloth will usualy do the trick. If there is a stubborn film on the plastic try a dilute solution of water and commercial window cleaner(like windex). 50:50 should be strong enuf.
Slightly off-topic, but worth mentioning since we're talking about the sometimes 'sensitive' guage plastic. I've seen several reports of plastic/vinyl dressing products causing clear plastic over instruments to cloud or get hazy. Restoring with Meguiars #17 & #10 has worked in many cases.

dave and xtoy - mind the odo reset button eek

Not to beat a dead horse, a falling piece of lint can scratch the guage cluster lenses. I clean it with windex and a cotton ball...still get scratches.

I agree. Anything scratches it. I tried using negative cloth, it still scratches. After ECXC, in my laziness I went to one of those hand carwashes, and the bastard scratched it up real bad.

Is there any sort of polish I can use to try to hide these scratches?

Have you actually tried that on the gauges? Does it work all that well? I assume that the rear window on a car would have a stronger plastic.

[edit]Forgot to add: Thanks for the link.[/edit]

The back window of my car is flexible vinyl, the guage plastic is hard plastic - don't know exactly which one. I suspect it is the same plastic as the signal light lenses. So far, the gauge plastic of xtoy or miatank is unscratched. Wipe the dirt off with non-abrasive materials, don't rub it in. Others have had success with 10/17 on the guage plastic if it is already scratched. I use it on the car's rear window and to detail plastic signal lenses. I have no reason to doubt that it will work well on the guages as others have reported.

dave and xtoy - don't scratch it in the first place

Plexus. Use it generously.

What is Plexus, and where can you buy it? Does it hide some of the scratches?

Plexus is a good plastic cleaner, but what you sue to wipe it off is the key. Classic Motoring has a glass towel that is microfiber. If you've never used microfiber towels on your X, you are missing out. Check out http://www.properautocare.com/micwhatbigde.html for details about microfiber and it's benefits.

I use a glass towel either by just getting it damp and wiping the gauges, or use Classic's Eimann Fabrik Clear Vision, http://www.properautocare.com/cl-v32.html. It doesn't streak and dries fast. cool

No, it doesnt "get rid off" scratches but it will works pretty good for me. I use it usually on my Busa windscreen. Most motorcyle shops should carry it.
